In short: Great marshals, lovely route, rope on hill... In full: Friendly atmosphere, nice small race. Route change this year added extra interest, new rope hills much better than before. Particularly liked the completely gratuitous up and down just after the last roped hill! Gorgeous weather, and all the marshals were very friendly and enthusiastic. In the traditional way, they all lied about the hills/ distance left/ "looking good", which we all know isn't true but completely expected! :) Overall, another great race from Bitton. In short: Very, very hilly, gorgeous scenery. Definite challenge! In full: Brilliant low-key race, absolutely rock hard. Second half has some "playful" hills, only the stupidly super-fit can run then (or possibly just the stupid...). Beautiful weather allowed miles of coastline to be seen, and other runners off in the distance! One of the must-do races for those who like a challenge. Many thanks to the marshals on the water stations and at the finish, the jelly babies and biscuits were very much appreciated! Thanks to all at Sidmouth for organising the race, I hope to be back again next year. :) Date of review: April 1, 2012

In short: Hilly, hot, lovely marshals, excellent organisation In full: For the first mile, I thought we'd been short-changed but then the hills began. I don't think there were any flat bits after that! The hill at 8.5 was fun, definitely one to provoke a few swear words. :) The cakes, rolls and fruit-cups afterwards were amazing, the marshals were all very encouraging, the whole race was organised and ran like clockwork. Only real problem (for me at least) was the temperature, and dehydration and cramps in the last 3 miles. The downhill to the finish was brilliant! Hope to be back next year, this is definitely one of the more interesting road runs out there. :) Date of review: March 25, 2012

In short: Boggy, hilly, hard! Fantastic fun. In full: Another great race, brilliant atmosphere, marshals were all very enthusiastic and supportive even if they did lie! "It's flat from here", "Last hill..." without the disclaimer "for the next little bit..." It wouldn't be the same without it though. Quite roady/ tracky this year and less shingle which was a little disappointing.. But not that disappointing! I heard the bottlenecks at a couple of gates were due to a farmer being awkward, but grateful for the rest breaks. The bog was short and shoe-sucking, but did like the shoe wash afterwards (stream) and the bonus bog a bit further on. :) Lots of water stations, and many thanks to all the marshals offering jelly babies - very appreciated later in the race! Overall, another well organised race, hope to get in again next year - it's my favourite run. :) Date of review: March 12, 2012

In short: Brilliant organisation, and a nice early start. In full: A lot of thought has gone into the organisation of this race, I especially appreciated being able to have my own drinks waiting at the 20K and 35K stations - no cramps, yay! I thought we'd be getting a cotton t-shirt, so a technical tee plus a medal was a bonus. Route was very scenic, some gorgeous cottages along the way, and for a small race, lots of supporters. Lots of the spectators had bikes and were cyling around the route, which seemed a much better option than running... Course was pretty flat with a few minor inclines, nothing particularly brutal - if you like undulations this is not going to be your ideal run! Finally, thank you very much to all the marshalls, I know it's a really long day for them. They were still smiling and encouraging those of us nearer the back (although that could have been the fancy dress...), so thank you all. Big thanks too to Ines ("mad French woman"), you did a magnificent job of organising. :) Date of review: May 2, 2011

In short: Mud and hills with tea and cake, excellent! In full: Another well organised MVP from PJC, I loved it! Slightly disappointed that we didn't go all the way to the top of Butser Hill (SSSI now), but the incredibly slippery mud towards the top of the new route up added to the challenge. Several of us were trying to hang on to the fence to stay upright - the rain (just started) was helping 'oil' the path up nicely! I did enjoy the new section on Old Winchester Hill, I think it more than made up for taking out the long, slow drag up Butser. The tea at the Butser water station was very welcome, by that point I was drenched and quite chilly! I did notice that the rum hadn't been all that popular though... To conclude, a brilliant off-road race, lots of gratuitous hills, mud, glorious scenery, friendly and enthusiastic marshals (thank you all for your support!), well supplied water stations (love the option of cake, banana and jelly babies) and good organisation. I'm hoping to back again next year... :) Date of review: March 16, 2011
