In short: Hot, Hilly, Hard, but with a great finish In full: A suprisingly warm day, for what is actually a fairly hilly course - most people mention the major hills but in fact the vast majority of Leek Wooton is one big hill, as is a lot of the race to be honest!
Not one for getting a great PB perhaps, but walking through Warwick Castle to start and then ending up in Kenilworth is pretty good. Organization spot on too, just include an energy bar and drinks at the end! Date of review: June 10, 2012
In short: A good race that would be great with a few tweaks In full: Firstly it's not flat, it's mainly flat! Also, a long (.5 mile?) loop around to get back the stadium is just bad planning, add a mile somewhere else, you can see the stadium 2 miles before you get there.
It took about 10 minutes to get from the finish line to the water, which must be fixed. Foil, medal, chip removal and goody bag can wait, get us the fluids!
All that said it is a good race and I felt the organization was good excepting the above points. It is big but the advantage is no problems your way to the race village, and the stations on route were all well manned with plenty of local support as well. Date of review: April 5, 2012
In short: 26C and the first 6 miles uphill In full: The plan to hold in cooler October was foiled by being one of the hottest on record, further complicated by loudspeakers blaring out to drink water and there not being a water station until almost mile 4. A serious lack of toilets (ie: 4 including the portables) didn't help, and it wasn't exactly flat.
That all said, I'd do it again with more hill prep... But would take my own water and hope for a nice 15C. Date of review: December 2, 2011
