In short: Great Location but a soul destroying hill climb In full: Really enjoyed the inaugral Karrimor Great Trail Challenge, i ran the half marathon in a relatively decent time of 2h10. There was plenty of stewards, and loads of free water which was excellent, baggage area was not covered though and this could have been a real nightmare if it had rained, so a covered area next time please guys. The course was really good and had a nice mix of track, path and a bit off off-road which will have made it a great race for first timers doing the 10k. My only quibble would be that flaming monster of a hill climb.. dont get me wrong i like a climb, and have done a few hellrunners so not afraid of a thigh burner, but this was ridiculous and i didnt see anybody attempting even the meekest of a jog, it was walking pace all the way. great view from the top but it does mean that there is no chance of a PB on a route like this. Improvements - more road signage on the way into Keswick as i only found it after following other people who seemed to know where they were going, there were no road signs at all i could see and i came off the main A66. In short: WAY better than last year and not as hilly as Middle In full: LOVE LOVE LOVE this race, better this year as it was a good 12 miles i reckon, although the lap at the start was a bit rubbish but i did get to high 5 the devil!! love the bogs but that water station couldnt come quick enough as i think the sunshine caught everyone by surprise. My only concern is that soem of the bogs were really really deep and when i stepped in i dropped in up to my chin, and im no shorty, so god knows how some people managed. Hats off to the guy in the Mankini and to my race buddy Chris think he was 887 or something like that, he saved me from a face full of Bog after i tripped over a hidden log, the same one i tripped over last year!! i never learn. needless to say i will be back next year, and i will do the Middle again in Feb Date of review: September 15, 2011
