In short: trail running at its best In full: A challenging course through fantastic countryside. Brilliant terrain to get stuck into - something for everyone, from incredibly technical climbs and decents to sweeping grassy trails along the top of the Gorge, and over 1600 ft of elevation gain thrown in for good measure! Atmosphere was friendly, and the event well organised and course-marked. Nice to have some new trail events in this region of the country. Would definitely recommend. Date of review: July 15, 2012

In full: First time I'd run Tewkesbury, and I'm afraid I won't be back next year. Overall the event really lacked atmosphere, despite pockets of support along the route. I didn't really enjoy running so much of the course alongside (albeit quite considerate) traffic and it detracted a lot from the countryside potential. Course was fairly flat (came close to matching my p.b. despite the wind), so would probably suit first timers looking for a small race to make step into the half marathon distance. In short: A fun and friendly introduction to marathon running In full: This was my first marathon, and overall I would rate it very highly. The atmosphere was fantastic, no doubt helped along by the scorching weather!
Great crowd support on the seafront and the residential areas in the second half. The most eastern and western fringes of the course were rather quiet, but provided a well-needed chance to focus during the early stages, and a lack of shouting while struggling with the dreaded wall. Width of the course seemed adequate for the number of runners, so no holdups on the hills. Finish area and baggage collection were swift, though may well have become less easy to navigate as runner numbers increased later on though, as there wasn't really a clear progression from medal collection, food, drink etc.
Overall, good value for money, and nice not to have to enter an entry ballot. I'd definitely recommend this one. Date of review: April 14, 2011
