In short: Very disappointing for a Race organised by a running club. In full: I was looking forward to this as I knew this race had a long history and being organised by a running club they should know what they are doing unlike some commercial races. No official baggage area, just leave your bag in a big hall, the marshalls at the road crossing were very unassertive and I had to stop as I wasn't confidence they were going to stop the traffic even though one marshall had told me to cross. The medal is a cheap one, I don't care about medals so that didn't bother me, but after doing a 20mile run the least they could have done is provide some food. No fruit or cakes or energy bars. Just some water in a Finchley 20 bottle. Very poor, apparently they were selling cakes in the club house. Very money grabbing. Also no refunds or transfers (within 60 days) this is the sort of thing commercial races do, not running clubs. Other years they had provided tech t-shirts but they didn't this year, which is fair enough if they didn't advertise it. But its very hard to justify the £23 entry fee? No road closures. No posting out of race numbers No baggage area No food at the end Clapham chasers 20 miler race entry was £14 and you got a who lot more. Gade Valley (training run) £5 on the day entry. I won't be going back in a hurry for this one. Money grabbing so and so's!
In short: Excellent race but not for the faint hearted In full: First time doing Marlow HM. Minor point but the bag drop could have been better. I know all races could do with more loo's but Marlow was cutting it fine. Besides these minor points its an excellent race, lovely views and encouraging marshalls. The hills were tough but that's why we run Marlow. Thanks Striders for a great race. Date of review: November 6, 2015
In short: Excellent Organisation In full: Good race and the two laps weren't that bad for those doing the 20 miler, Friendly marshalls and plentiful water stations. Its a well organised run. A little expensive as a training run (presume many used it as that for a spring marathon rather than a race). Loved the mars bar in the goody bag! Date of review: February 15, 2015
In short: Greedy Sweatshop company In full: This race is organised by Sweatshop and they have too many runners in order to make a profit. Not enough staff or buses, this race has a great history but is quickly losing its good reputation that it had. lots of other spring half marathons to choose from. No apologies from Reading HM yet? Do they even care? Date of review: March 3, 2014
In short: Nice race but lots of room for improvement In full: Hard to know about this race in the future because if it gets any bigger it will be too congested in Kew gardens and the early parts of the Towpath. The price is too expensive for a non UKA run, i didnt mind the mile markers being hand written but i did mind the mile markers being in the wrong place, Mile Marke 2 was at 1.83 and mile 10 was also a lot out. But the others where ok so only a minor detail but still something that any race should get right. The race measured 13miles on my Garmin so came up short another runner also told me that theirs came up just short. Garmins arent 100% but ALL my race are always over the distance. The water stations were also under staffed, i had to pick up the cups from the table and i was towards the front of the field so it must have been worse further down. Not a big problem but a little annoying if you are chasing a PB. these issuses are easily fixable. Good atmosphere at the finish and a really nice T-shirt, this is a good fun run but not worth £34. Bring down the price, sort the these few issues and then i may well come back as the Route is lovely Date of review: September 22, 2013
In short: Possible the best new race of the year In full: It is obvious that this is a race organised by runners and everything went like clockwork, an excellent goody bay and freebie’s which was nearly worth the race entry fee only! Very enthusiastic marshals which is always great. The free photos are a really nice touch. I will make this a regular in my racing calendar I’m sure it will sell out much quicker next year. In full: We at Ealing Eagles Running Club are working with the promoters of this race to make improvements from last year. It is a wide open park and will be well marshalled and signed. Good PB potential and a low cost to enter and a friendly atmosphere, See ye all there. Date of review: June 2, 2011
In full: Hi I did not do this race last year but have read the reviews and there is lots of room for improvement. So we at Ealing Eagles running club have come on board to advise and help out with Running this race this year (2011), we will have a clearly laid out and accurately measured course that will be well marshalled. With 10nr Km signs. Adequate water and extra loo's. We are addressing all the points raised on the forum and hope to run a much more professional race, which will still be good fun and is excellent value for money. Give it a go!
