In short: The Round Ripon Ultra 35 is CHALLENGING WITH A CAPITAL "C"! In full: This will test you to the limit! I did the Cardiff marathon ultra (50 miler) in may of this year which was so much more doable than this undulating terrained marathon (35 miler). I completed it it 8 hours 53 mins!!!!
I really struggled with the hills and had to use my inhailer on a couple of occasions!!!! So I would advise anyone that is considering this ultra to work on your hill runs.
Also you need to be a good navigator!!!!! I was very fortunate! I was with a runner who was a fantastic map reader. We got lost on one occasions (and so did many others might I add) so be warned! The checkpoints were excellent and provided you with bottled water and isotonic drinks (a life saver) loads of GO bars, jelly babies etc etc.
Overall, it was a great experience especially when I saw the finishing line line! So beginners be warned - this is a very challenging ultra!!!!!!!!
Literally a week from doing this run I plan to do the spires and steeple challenge (26.2) marathon which should be a lot more easier. Date of review: October 10, 2013
In short: I Raided the Ropsley Half Mararhon (13 .7 mile) Challenge!!! In full: Wel what can I say regarding this event in comparison to other reviews? Very very challenging and not for the faint hearted!!! I have a coup,e of half marathon runs under my belt which I found invaluable to enable me to complete this tough challenge! To start off with it was very cold and running through the fields which felt like you were going to twist your ankles and had to be very careful as well as trying to keep your pace going. Yes it was a major sense of achievement when I completed it!
I would definitely do it again! The organizations were very good but was directed on a couple of occasions by the regular Ropsley runners that were very helpful giving a lot of encouragement and making sure that you are heading in the right directions.
The goody bag was very good but the only downside dare I say it was the showers! and decided to head back home!
However I would do this event and was great as I plan to do the St Valentines 30k (18 miles) in a few weeks and then the Edingburgh Marathon in May so it's all helping with the training regime!
So if you want a challenge anyone do the Ropsley Half Marathon but please make sure you have a couple of half marathons on your belt!!!!!!!!! Date of review: January 19, 2012
In short: Edwinstowe 10k Run In full: Yes I very much enjoyed this 10k challenge. I did a steady 10k the day before but managed to complete in 51 mins. Great atmosphere and would definitely do this event again. Date of review: January 2, 2012
