In short: Bloody great In full: Loved every second despite the weather. Along with The Giants Head in Dorset, I reckon this is a must do marathon for people who like a challenge!!!! Spectators and marshals brilliant, kids with gels, sweets and encouragement all along the course. Some punishing hills, especially between miles 21-24 killed my first sub 5, (I did 5.07, still a huge PB). The last two miles also need to be taken carefully in the rain, as very steep and slippy. Having said that, it's a tough day out, but one completely worth the 6 hour drive to get up from North Devon. I will be back!!!! Date of review: October 25, 2015
In short: A must do In full: My first tri, and I will be back. Well organised, great marshalls, friendly and helpful fellow competitors. I beat my guess at my finish time by over 20 mins. The start of a new obsession. Date of review: September 28, 2014
In short: Good weekend away In full: I finished, which was my only goal for the weekend. Marshals very friendly and encouraging, excellent racecourse start and finish, and lovely villages on the way round. The support was great too, even for those of us at the near back. I came 250 miles to run, and I'd do so again probably Date of review: October 10, 2013
In short: Hilly as hell In full: This race is absolutely fabulous. Granted I was one of the few DNF's, but the scenery, the marshalls (Have to mention the Runners World crew at Mile 21.5, and the doctor at mile 18 ish who told me that the runners world crowd were about 1km away to keep me going, when they were 3 miles plus away!! Brilliant atmosphere from start to finish, the campsite was great, and I made new friends. A word of warning though. This is a bloody tough marathon, not for the faint hearted. Not to be tried unless you've done some SERIOUS hill training!!! I will be back next year, having trained properly, and give those hills the respect they deserve!!! Congratulations to Andy and the team for a great weekend Date of review: June 30, 2013
In short: great race, shame about the weather In full: I'm biased as I got a PB but what a great race. Flat apart from a slight incline in the first kilometre. Out and back course with spectators who stood out in the rain to keep you going. This is my local 10k, so I WILL do next year's. Did I mention the home made cakes and coffee at the end? Lovely Date of review: May 12, 2013
In short: tough hills, but I finished In full: First comment I make has to be about the marshalls, because foruthe whole two hours and 40 minutes I was running and walking, the encouragement and Jelly Babies never stopped. It's a tough race, make no bones about it. If you haven't trained for hills (note to self for next year), you WILL have a hard time. The first bit of the race, through the estate isn't scenic at all, cut once you get out of town, prepare for the wow factor. I would certainly run it again and find some hills to run up! My legs hurt Date of review: May 5, 2013
In short: hard going muddy fun In full: Near 7.5 miles of deep mud, chest deep water and tough hills. Proud of just finishing but need some trail shoes for next year. I might stay upright for a bit longer. Marshallls all friendly, organisation spot on. Good fun Date of review: April 14, 2013
In short: issues with numbers not turning up but good race In full: There were problems before the start, as the numbers didn't turn up, so people had to be manually matched with their chip. No fault of the organisers but led to big queues and C delayed start. The race itself was excellent, very scenic, and challenging for a relative beginner like me. I missed my PB by one minute, on a course that was by no means flat. Gives me confidence for my next flat race.
Just wish I could fix my back. I'll be back again Date of review: March 24, 2013
In short: great race, friendly marshalls but the car parking needs work In full: My third HM, and a PB for me. I'll start with the good points. Marshalls incredibly supportive and happy, despite the cold. Racing on Silverstone itself is great for a motor racing fan. Seven minutes to get over the start line, and a PB at the end.. sneaky slope up to the finish too.
The only thing that needs fixing is the car park at the end of the race. Organisation getting in great, getting out, not so much. Over an hour of not moving an inch and on marshalls in sight followed by a four hour drive home isn't good. Made for a late night home. I'd still do the race again though Date of review: March 4, 2013
In short: worth the trip In full: We had a five hour round trip from North Devon to get up for this race. It was worth it for me as I got a PB. Course relatively flat with the occasional small hill. Marshals very friendly and encouraging when I went past them. The industrial estate bit was made a bit better with the band at the entrance. I'd probably do the race again if my missus would agree to another 5.30 start Date of review: October 22, 2012
