In short: Very well organized and did a great job on a hot day. In full: This was my 9th marathon of 2011 and although all flat the forecast heat on the day meant it wa going to be a tough one and I don't do heat. I arrived at the start around 8.15am and the parking was 100 yrds from the finish (good after 26 miles) there was food and tea on sale, ample loo's and the timing chip was available inside the school, all well signposted. There was a DJ on, not sure the Mablethorpe folk would be impressed with "keep on running at 100 decibels at 8.30 am on a Sunday..." but good atmosphere.
I was hoping for a sub 5 hour time but the heat which I hate just drained the life out of me and after halfway I was tired and felt sick so decided to walk the 2nd half. What was impressive was that they had put out loads more water and extra stations, also they even bought in there own energy drinks as they did not have a drinks sponsor. They also had bowls of water to tip over your head to cool down.
I had the honor of been officially last it a dismal 5.51 but all the marshals stayed out till I went passed and was welcomed on the promenade by the town crier which was really embarrassing as the promenade was busy in the unseasonal autumn sunshine. At the finish got a great reception by the marshals which cheered me up in what was a hard day.
Also Mablethorpe does have a lot of retired folk bless em and they were all out in there deck chairs in the front gardens cheering everyone on.
Hats off to the organizers, job very well done and if anyone is thinking of it for 2012 its worth the trek out to the east coast.
