In short: Fantastic well organised In full: This was my first half marathon so i wasn't sure what to expect but i was very impressed. Well organised, lots of friendly encouraging marshalls and spectators along the route. Good amount of water stations. Only down for me was by the time I finished there were no goodie bags left. I would have expected enough bags for entries. I also understand that there was a problem with the chip timing and quite a lot of people were not listed in the results.
This is a very popular race and it was nice to bump into lots of familiar faces from both BBH and Parkrun.
I will definitely be entering next year. Date of review: April 3, 2012
In short: Badly organised and miserable marshalls In full: Flat course good for a PB. The strangest warm up I've done pre-race. Total confusion as to how many times around the track. There were only 60-70 people racing so not much atmosphere. Most of the marshalls looked like they would much rather be anywhere else but there. I smiled and just go blank faces back. One spent most of the race talking on his mobile phone. The exception was the guy by the Bromley Common end car park. He was friendly and encouraging. By the time I did my final lap of the park half the marshalls had wandered off.
I'd read the bad reviews for this race but thought perhaps they were being unfair and I would give it a chance, but never again.
BTW I did manage to find the results, eventually. A couple of weeks after the race an email came through with a link to their new website. Unfortunately on that site the link to the results just lead to the Apple website but if you view source of the web page you can find the link which is

In short: This could be a great race if only they would listen to what the runners tell them each year. In full: This race has the potential to be a really good race. The location and course is good but the organisers just don't listen to what the runners say. This race has been going for three years now and each year it has the same three complaints. What is really annoying is that they are very easy things to put right.
1. Measure the course so it is 10k or at least tell us what the course length is so we can work out our times. The start and finish lines are in different places so it should be pretty easy to move one or other to make it 10k.
2. Record and publish all finishers times not just the first 50. Many runners I know from parkrun and running clubs just don't bother with this race for this reason. This race obviously isn't organised by runners.
3. Friendlier marshalls and more encouragement. I'm a slow runner and always near the back and there isn't anything more demoralising than seeing a marshall walking away from their post before you've past, which is what happened to me here. If I can see them walking away then they can see me coming.
It's a real shame that one of the local running clubs does organise a race here as it has the potential to be a great race.
This could be an all-time favourite but currently falls short. I'll give it one more go next year but if they haven't listened to what everyone says again I won't enter again. Date of review: October 21, 2011
In short: Fantastic organisation and the friendliest marshalls ever! In full: The organisation was excellent from pre-race through to the finish. Chip timing with staggered starts depending on your estimated finish time. The course was challenging in places being a mixture of roads, woods and field. Police stopped traffic and closed roads where necessary so we got a clear run with no stopping. Good mix of running ability. Lots of marshalls and every single one was happy and really encouraging. Jelly Babies at 5k. Fantastic atmosphere.
Well done Petts Wood Runners for putting on a 1st class race. I've already put next years date in my diary! Date of review: October 21, 2011
