In short: My 2nd ever marathon and one i'll never forget!!! In full: I entered this off the back of my 1st Marathon at Brighton 2012.
Plenty of parking at the finish when we arrived around 7:00. Easy access to toilets at both finish and the start. Great bus service to the start from the parking at the finish. Which is a good time to get chatting to other runners, especially as it was my first time at the SDM. Good atmosphere at start, very friendly runners. Great organisation with the relay and staggered start marathon runners setting of bang on time. Not enough water stations for me personally but I totally understand the logistical reasons for this. I bought a water belt especially for this race and very happy I did. I would recommend anyone else doing this race to try and carry water too.
Very challenging – I knew it was going to be tuff be some of these hills need to be seen to be believed!
In short: Beautiful Scenery! Great support! Very challenging! In full: Superb first HM run by Destination Basingstoke!!
Great support from locals from the start, through the villages and back in to Basingstoke!
The hills... were very hilly! Made the down hills that more rewarding! Especially the big dipper - coming round the corner and seeing that infront of me was a great feeling! The shortish but very tuff hill at the bottom was made the little bit easier by all the cheering people!
Top 3 things; 1, Organisation 2, Hosepie Heros! 3, Challanging HM that I can't wait to do again!
Worse 3 things; 1, Not enough water stations. (The heatwave was warned about a week before.) 2, The October heat wave. (Unavoidable) 3, Goodie Bags. (Could have been a bit better)
Overall... great event! Really cannot wait till next year!
Congrats, Destination Basigstoke and a very successful race!
