In short: Excellent course for the average runner
In full: Directions to the event good
Parking good ( getting out very slow)
The route around Derby was excellent
Good support and encouraging marshalls
Finish good ( Reading standard)
T-shirt good but cannot understand why medium and small sizes were not available !!! )
Shame that no medal existed for a good event
Goody bag rubbish - why bother - the bag probobly cost more than the contents ( loads of bumff , one sweetie and a bracelet advertising a fitness club? )
If the above criticisms were address I would give the event a wholehearted endorsement

A bargain at the price.

In short: a good winter race
In full: The blustery wind was a moderating factor on times.Thank goodness no rain.
The track on the outward part of the course was filled with water holes which pushed runners onto the muddy verges. This was not surprising considering the previous weeks inclement weather! This event deserves to be well supported.

In short: a good winter race
In full: Timing chips would be nice as those at the rear of the starters automatically had over a minute added to their real times .
The finish line was a little obscure and robbed me of my finishing burst ( ha!ha! ) - I am still not sure where the exact finish was except I was marshalled into a corridor formed of metal barriers and awarded a rather nice medal.
Perhaps another water station so a 5,10,15 split was achieved.

No serious complaints overall except that prizes were distributed prior to my finish. I realise that at my age I will never feature along with the elite but all seemed a bit rushed?

In short: A shambles at the end
In full: Why oh why do folk who are going to walk enter the 55 minute start pens. Within the first kilometre runners were dodging these folk causing chaos.
On complaining on completion ( after 10 minutes waiting in the cold!) about the lack of t-shirts I was informed that this was due to some competitors taking two - this beggars belief!!!!!
However the race was advertised as having 8000 competitors and according to the results 7379 completed , where did the rest go ????
Whilst some runners may? have taken more than their allocated number , the discrepancy leads to other conclusions?
As a previous correspondent states , a medal would be more welcome or as well as.
The finishing area definately requires a coat of looking at prior to next year. Many other large participant races have got this aspect cracked.

In short: Not a race for a PB but excellent for a training run
In full: As usual excellent organisation
Tougher than a normal half marathon due to the constraints and conditions as previously stated by reviewers
The mud did not help but it twas the same for everyone
Runners two abreast early on with no regard to those wishing to pass were a nuisance. Perhaps in future a recommendation to run "indian file " would not go amiss.
This event is well worth a visit!

In short: The delay in starting took the gloss of the event
In full: This event was unusual in that it was run in the dark and was associated with a funfair and firework display.
Unfortunately for reasons unknown the start of the race was delayed for approximately 60 minutes which was not pleasant in the cold night air.Surely if folk wish to attend these evening events they should allow plenty of time to make the journey and register etc.
The route was on a path around York race track and was congested - however this is not a gripe as it was a fun event and everyone ( when started ) appeared to enjoy the experience.
Further delays occurred at the finish with runners having to wait 20 minutes to collect their medals and chocky.
The above apart , the event was enjoyable and the medal and technical t-shirt were above average and well worth collecting.
I am sure that if this event is run again next year the problems addressed above will be sorted by the organisers

In short: An excellent effort for the first time
In full: The start was delayed due to works on the M60?
However if folk had followed the organiser's advice and arrived early the problem of the late start would not have occurred. It was cold hanging around at the start.
The course was not flat but mildly undulating and all the better for that.
Cars on the country lanes were a bit of a problem but were negotiated successfully.
A good medal and an excellent understated technical t-shirt !
This is an event which I will be returning to.
