In short: Tough In full: I train in Hull and would definitely describe myself as a 'road' runner, so this was a shock. But, a good one! Hills were awesome, the views fantastic.
Some serious bottlenecks at the start - as one guy said in another review, I get it now why all the seasoned Belper runners went off like a rocket. Probably added a good 10 mins to my time hanging out at field boundaries :-(
The end of the race was a bit of a damp affair. Not a huge crowd at the finish, and some confusion as to who did, and didn't, get t-shirts. Orange wedges kinda reminded me of school rugby circa 1970, but as this was in fact a rugby club, they probably thought these were a real treat.
Overall, though, I loved it. Never properly ran on that sort of terrain before. It's a great training session for marathons: do this and a flat ish road race will feel effortless... Date of review: August 19, 2013
In short: Great day out. Fantastic atmosphere In full: Left it too late to sign up for this race last year, so today was I really looking forward to it. Previous PB, York, 37:49. Today 36:19 and I came 14th in my category - vet45 - so I am extremely happy. Didn't experience the organisational probs at the end cos I was having a pint in the bier keller up the road. Defo back next year to break 35 if poss. Fewer runners would be better than more. Just saying... Date of review: November 18, 2012
