In short: Superb in every way In full: Out of 2 marathons and 8 Half marathons (and smaller races) - this is my stand out race of the past 12 months (including GNR). Top of the class for organisation. Top of the class for atmosphere. Top of the class for marshalling. Top of the class for everything. You have made me fall in love with running all over again after a pretty crap taper (mentally). Loved loved loved it and want to thank everyone who helped make this a wonderful wonderful race. Organisers, you should be so so proud tonight. You rock. Date of review: October 7, 2012

In short: Fantastic! In full: Favourite race (and no, I didn't bother to race the train!) of the year (and I have ran a fair few). Extremely well organised, brilliant day for the kids too, lovely scenery and the added extra of a train with people cheering you on (need to be pretty quick to beat the train though!). Will be on my calendar for next year. Brilliant marshals and support too. Not the easiest of runs but not as hard as doing some of the usual Welsh trail/cross country runs. Not PB material BUT you don't feel pressure like you do in a road race, I took it steady and enjoyed every minute of it. Date of review: August 30, 2012

2012 Greater Manchester Marathon

In short: Has potential to be an excellent race In full: The race itself was good, one thing I did find a struggle was the mile markers were hard to see. Plenty of portaloos and I didn't even have to queue but after around 8.30am, it did get busier but not as bad as some races.
The Dunham Massey stretch I enjoyed! It made the race a bit more challenging rather than just running on roads. Why people are complaining about this I don't know. If you decide to run a marathon on a day when rain is predicted, you have to know your feet are going to get wet.
The support was fantastic and never have I had so much respect for the marshalls, unbelievable they were. I wish I could thank every single one of them myself. I think a FB group should be set up thanking them!
The weather was something that has damaged this race as it was so horrendous. The baggage was not something I had an issue with because I hadn't used it but whoever had the idea of giving everyone the same plastic bag and then not having a correct system in place should be fired. However the organisers have apologised but I was near hyperthermic at the end and had I have had to hang around for a couple of hours with no warm clothes trying to find my bag, I probably would have ended up in hospital. Let's hope they learn from this huge error.
Will I do it again? At this moment, I am not too sure but that is more down to the fact I don't want to repeat marathons more than anything the organisers did.
This will go down as one of those races that people will never forget for many reasons but I hope that it continues as there were a LOT of good points about it, one of those being the Manchester people and marshalls who came out to support on a terrible day. Date of review: May 2, 2012
