In short: poor organisation and all corners cut to make money In full: 1 small car park charging £5 but we were advised to cycle in! insufficient toilets ran our of water at the end - criminal - runners need to hydrate and to run out is unacceptable water provided in cups not all roads shut and many near misses with idiot drivers - not the organisers fault, but they should have put more marshals on the open roads yoghurt was spilt all over my bag in the baggage area timing chips didn't work although a lot were on the road as they'd fallen out no goodie bag signs to direct runners to the car park were non existent or taken down when i got there which was before the cut off set the half marathon runners off with the full so very cramped at the start and then left isolated after the halves veered off insufficient toilets on the course the one positive - i now appreciate even more the race directors that get it right! In short: it is extremely tough but OMG the views are to die for (quite literally if you're not careful) In full: the fact it is called "the beast" says it all but wow that was tough! the hills were not kind and so glad i put in the training hours, but i tell you what - the views are amazing! the marshalls were amazing, plenty of water stations, it was all well sign posted and the sweepers behind us were very friendly. i cannot fault this race and the cream tea afterwards was orgasmic :D Date of review: September 3, 2012
In short: Really pretty with varied terrain - excellent marshals! In full: I only came along as a friend said they were running and I was very pleasantly surprised - really enjoyed it and loved the fact the route was multi terrain with lots to look at! Date of review: July 1, 2012
In short: definitely not flat! In full: having been born and bred in Fleet is was lovely to run on home soil - but i wouldn't say it was flat and fast, but i'm not a fast or experienced runner. the marshalls were faultless - lovely and total gratitude to the crowds outside the barley mow - amazing! it was lovely to have the crowds gathered on the last half a mile - i was in tears with pain and they were truly lifting and got me over the finish line - thank you! In short: very little support and very few marshals In full: I was looking forward to this one as I like Portsmouth and was settled knowing it would be a flat run - the terrain though - ouch - running across slushy shingle and rocks was not pleasant and my joints are shouting at me now. A few of the marshals were very encouraging and smiled and cheered - the rest were clearly not happy to be there, but then it was cold. It's a shame as on so many previous events the marshals have given me that lift to push a bit harder. Tough terrain but pleasant scenery. Date of review: February 13, 2012
In short: Thank goodness for the scenery! In full: So I had to park nearly a mile from the start, queue half an hour for the toilet and the race started uphill! Disappointed with the lack of water stations especially as it was a hot day, but once we entered the park it was stunning. I had 4 horses on my tail getting me up what felt like Mount Everest, but the supporters with Jelly Babies at the bottom were angels!
I have to say - what annoyed me the most - we were originally told that those people caught with iPods would be disqualified and yet people were running with them and nothing was done and I really missed running with my music! Sorry to moan but disappointing. Date of review: September 27, 2011
