In short: An event where the best in the world lead the best club runners and the fancy dressed masses raising money for stuff they care about. Amazing.
In full: My first Great North Run (despite living a mile from the start for 25 years) and it was awe-inspiring. Some runners are doing it knowing it will be a struggle, but raising money urges them on, as does a crowd who will you on to the finish -especially when your leg seizes a mile from the line! And for a course that has a net decrease in altitude, I can't remember that many descents apart from the vicious at the end that finished off my leg!
