In full: This is the second time I have run this marathon and I thoroughly enjoyed it despite the undulations. The marshals were very supportive with sweets on offer at several places and a mixture of drinks at the drink stations. The course was tough in places but the scenery and support made the challenge worthwhile. The goody bag at the end was the best I have had with a great selection of goodies plus a technical t shirt and a medal. Despite being a challenging course I managed a PB by over 5 minutes and was 20 minutes quicker than last year on the same race so was very happy! Date of review: May 13, 2013

In short: Far too many people gave the wrong race time In full: This was the first time I had done the GNR and was looking forward to it. My previous PB was the Cambridge Half Marathon which was flat and much less crowded. The pens were very crowded and despite getting their early we had to wait to get into the pen. What I noticed within the first 3 miles was the large amount of people walking who had been in the pen in front of us, how they got into the faster pens I have no idea. The first mile was spent with a view of men peeing up either side of the road - not a pretty sight and obviously a sign there were not enough toilets. The route was good with some inclines and bands along the way. One annoying thing was the number of children squirting water on the runners whilst volunteers looked on, this is not what runners need on a rainy day and these children should have been stopped. I also think that the energy drinks should be provided in smaller bottles resulting in less wastage, it would also be nice if other runners did not just drop the bottle in the middle of the road or stop abruptly and walk in the middle of the road, a little bit of consideration for others wouldn't go amiss. Anyway, I managed a PB by 4 minutes which I was pleased with and the finish along the seafront was lovely. Dont think I would do it again as it is too expensive and took us about 90 minutes to get out of the traffic. Date of review: September 19, 2012
