In short: Fast and Flat In full: My 10 yr old daughter ran the 3k junior race. Lovely event. Will bring the wife next year to look after the kids and run the 10k myself straight after!...The park is so flat and fast. Really well organised little event, with a real personal touch. In short: No excuse for Baggage debacle In full: An enjoyable day, despite the weather, which was almost ruined by the disgraceful and non existent organisation re: baggage.
Course was good, although very lonely from 12 to 19. Perhaps reversing the course would mean that all the fantastic support around Sale/Altrincham would be with the runners in the latter half, and would mean that the subway could be avoided as road closure would be easier at 9am! Stewarding was great as were all the drinks/gel stations. Course is definitely fast, though Dunham Messy, and the 20mph headwind for last 5 miles did not help.
Least said about the baggage tent the better! Date of review: May 2, 2012
In short: Challenging course, great atmosphere and love the bands every mile! In full: The organisation was faultless on the day, the starting corrals working a treat. The course itself was downhill/flat for the first 4.6m (out of the city and along the prom), then turned back and over the next 4 mile gradually rose as we ran back to the city around the back of Arthurs Seat! Final 4 or so mile were up and down hills around city centre where support was great!
Only downside was that I had to run further than I expected, as my Garmin clocked 13.26m, despite taking the shortest lines round every corner! Did a quick poll from approx 8 people afterwards...Shortest measurement was 13.22, longest was 13.39! Date of review: April 17, 2012
In short: A defo PB course In full: Fantastic event. Start area was a little bit narrow and congested, but the rest of the event ran like clockwork.
Tough first mile and a half rising 200+ft, but thereafter was gently undulating, primarily through parks, and last 4 miles along flat waterfront (except mile through industrial estate)was fantastic! I broke 1:40 for the first time, so defo a course to run if you want a PB. This was my 3rd half, and defo my fave. Oh yes, the tech t-shirt is superb!
Already looking forward to next year, when the start and finish will apparently be by the Pier Head on wider roads, and I will hopefully break my PB again! Date of review: March 22, 2012
In short: Blew the cobwebs away In full: Pleasant course. Really friendly atmosphere. Could not quite get under 1:40 with the high winds, but still great fun! Only issue was the half full paper cups at the water stations....bottles next time please! Date of review: January 25, 2012
In short: Thoroughly enjoyable In full: Pleasant course, though off road tracks were challenging under foot at times! Loved the stadium finish and the family cheering from the stand! Organisation was good, although not enough toilets in the start area! Date of review: November 7, 2011
In short: Amazing Support In full: This was my first marathon, and although I missed out on my 4hr target by 5 seconds!, except my wedding day and the birth of my 2 girls it was probably the best experience of my life.
Why? Well it was not just the amazing views, (especially along the New Brighton/Egremont Promenade), and the fantastic cameraderie between the runners; it was the support which was amazing beyond belief and took the whole event to the next level!
I know some people have said Sefton Park was a little monotonous and certainly a route back to the city via Otterspool and along the front would be an improvement. But really, this is the first running of this race, and except for there being no communication to the runners in the starting gates as to the reason of the delay, everything about the organisation was excellent.
Far too challenging to be a PB course but will defo do again next September.
