In short: Spectacular scenery with a sting in the middle
In full: Ran the 21K option through some glorious terrain. The climb up onto Apley Terrace was tough but otherwise a very pleasant route. Organisation was rather light-touch - no safety pins by the time I got there, couldn't find any indication of the route on the website or at the event, and the promised finisher's momento didn't materialise - but for a small-scale event like this it was adequately organised, there was a great friendly atmosphere and the run itself was loads of fun. Excellent cake at the finish!

In short: Beautiful, boggy, brilliant fun.
In full: A complicated and interesting route was well marshalled. Lots of enthusiasm and good spirit from runners and organisers. Excellent cafe facilities courtesy of the National Trust. Took some concentration staying upright in some of the boggier and slipper places! Thanks to the Black Pear joggers for organisers - would definitely run it again.

In short: Big Hills.
In full: My Garmin logged 1572 feet of altitude gain during the race, so this is proper hilly. Lots of variety and interest on a twisty route - roads, mud, grass, woodland, stony paths, tracks. Good marshalling, very supportive and friendly. Anyone who can maintain a run up every hill on this race has my respect!

In short: Glorious way to spend a sunny summer evening
In full: Stratford AC run excellent races and this is no exception. Small-scale but very careful preparation and good quality marshalling, fine home made cakes, and beautiful surroundings. The course is mostly flat, but the final climb could give you a nasty bite if you haven't got much left.

In short: Runners rose to the weather challenge - organisers didn't quite
In full: Without seeing the condition of the portion of the Greenway that wasn't run on lap two, it's difficult to make definite judgements on the wisdom of cancellation. I respect that it's a difficult decision - personally I'd have appreciated strong advice to just do the half, but still have the option to complete. The website, is after all, full of disclaimers that you run at your own risk, etc etc. The very late and casual announcement was poor, though. Just half an hour earlier and word would have got around, and people who thought they were running a marathon wouldn't have had the awful experience of finding out it was all over. The bad weather was no surprise and contingency plans should have been in place. And at the finish, some space blankets would have been a godsend.
