In short: A fantastic day. Excellent organisation, enthusiastic crowd, course and weather. And a huge PB! In full: Had an excellent run around the streets of Ealing. The organisation was top-notch. There were an amazing number of lively marshals around the whole course providing plenty of encouragement and for a relatively early 9:15am Sunday start, I was surprised at the number of supporters around the course as well...really helps encourage you round. It was a lovely day weather-wise so that undoubtedly helped with the support, plus made for a good run too. The course itself is predominantly on the closed residential roads around Ealing visiting a few parks en-route. A few gradual ascents and descents, but nothing particularly 'hilly', so in my view makes for a quick course. It was advertised that we'd get a medal at the end, but I'm not really one for keeping medals and would have preferred a t-shirt, but saying that, the medal is pretty nice! In short, a fantastic event, and one for the calendar next year. Date of review: September 30, 2013
In short: Lovely course, well organised, great race! In full: Really enjoyed this one, excellently marshalled, Paul Daniels starting us off, the course has a few minor hills/undulations, mainly in the first half, so it's nice to get the down hills on the way home, and the results were on the website in super-quick time. And a PB! Highly recommended. Date of review: June 10, 2013
In short: Nice two-lap course with a track finish In full: My first half-marathon and it began in the pouring rain waiting for the coach to take us from the car park near the football stadium to the athletics stadium. Unfortunately, there's not much you can do about the weather! It was great with the start and finish at the stadium as we all sheltered from the cold and rain, changing rooms etc., with a few laps of the track for a good warm up. The organisation was excellent and a special mention to the marshals - they were numerous and very encouraging, and although the rain thankfully relented shortly after the start, deserve all the congratulations for braving the weather. The course itself was good: two laps starting from the athletics stadium, then a finish with a lap of the track. Mostly run on cycle paths which meant a little up-and-down as we negotiate the various underpasses, with the rest taking in the Fairlands Valley Park, which was certainly the most pleasant section: as it was two laps, we went round the park twice. As this was my first half, a PB was guaranteed but the up-and-downs were mild; there were perhaps a few sharp turns, but all in all, I think a good course for a PB. Thank you Spartans! In short: Broke my target of 40mins by over a minute! With the added bonus of also winning - what a day! In full: The weather was perfect! A bit on the cool side, but dry and hardly a breath of wind.
Before the start we had a really nice warm-up session. There were plenty of very encouraging marshals, a finishing band, and an excellent bunch of spectators at the finish area to really help with that final sprint! Date of review: October 7, 2012
