In short: Not what I anticipated
In full: Good an pleasant race and route overall. start a bit mixed up and could do with a little more organisation and the water stations could be a bit more focused with more attention to the Marathon runners particularly on the second lap, no bottles of water left unless you asked for them. There is no shelter on this route and it can get very warm, particularly on that last 6 miles. But overall very pleasant.

In short: Fell running can be done in the South-West.
In full: This is a fairly hard run which will require you to think for yourself. Some navigational skills are needed if you are to cut the corners off the route. Otherwise, just follow the tracks. This race could be a daughting prospect in inclement conditions. But the descent off Yes tor is worth the effort.

In short: A true cross-country run
In full: This is a cracker of a run. Well organised, good running potential, a slightly sereal feeling as you join the half-marathon crowd. The second half is hillier, the running surface quite firm underfoot and slippery in places, especially when wet! The marshals were stars and the finish down the hill thrilling. Not so sure on the distance accuracy as I managed to equal my road race average. That aside just run this race and enjoy it for what it is, a classic.

In short: Mud and three hills, each one bigger thn the last!
In full: Excellent and testing race. Really enjoyed myself even if I started to hit the wall after mile 18. The marshals were especially brilliant and the facilities very good, lashings of hot beverages. Brilliant

In short: This is not a cross-country race!!!!!!!!!
In full: For a so-called cross-country race and that was how it was billed, there was a lot of flat cycle track-work, toomuch. There was a decent section in the forest and the end was pretty gruelling. Over all, a bit disappointing. Enjoyed the challenge of the wade along the farm track and it took ages to clean the muck off me and my gear. I very much doubt I will return for this one.

In short: Yes it is hilly for the start and finish but they are not as bad as I was lead to believe.
In full: The first 4 miles are concerned with getting you away from the town, after that it's open countryside and quiet roads up to mile 10-ish. Then the tempo builds with more traffic and the hills begin. The final hilly section is intially stepish but the last climb at the finish just before the descent is trying and I speak as a hill specialist. The big one is a pussy and very over-rated.It's the one they have hidden around the corner that hurts. Bloody good route and I'll be back for this one.

In short: Blows out the New Year cobwebs in more ways than one!
In full: Not so much a race but more a social gathering of running nutters of all types. Be prepared to get wet and muddy! and have a good laugh!
