In short: ....better than Christmas shopping.....
In full: This was event was chosen so that I could end the year by running my 9th marathon/ultra of 2012 and my 80th marathon/ultra overall. I found it very well organised with great support from all the spectators and fellow runners that created a lovely atmosphere. The ground underfoot was testing in places and another year I would wear trail shoes rather than road which are still drying out!

My only disappointment and this seems to apply to most races now is the selfishness of a minority of runners who just discard their empty gel packets along the route rather than carry them to the next drinks station. So all those who needlessly litter the countryside should be ashamed of themselve especially as it reflects badly on the organisers.

0 Endurancelife Coastal Trail Series: Stage 3 - Portland (Marathon, Half, 10K)
Would you do it again?

Maybe

Details:

In short: For info: The rating I added for the West Lulworth Coastal Series Event on Dec 8th 2012 event seems to have been mixed up with the Portland event.

In short: Expensive
In full: When is a marathon not a marathon?....when it's an Endurancelife Coastal "marathon" in Dorset.

I paid £49 for the marathon event for what?...a generic Endurancelife tee shirt, two gels, one plastic wristband (why?), one protein bar & one of the cheapest "medals" I have ever received. There was only water and few jelly babies at the drinks stations (the isotonic powder soon ran out for the slower runners. It would be interesting to see what other marathoners' Garmins read as mine showed 28.71 miles. I'm used to running ultras but I certainly felt sorry for those walking with several miles to go as they were of the opinion it would be close to 26.2 miles...not 2.5 miles longer which over the very tough terrain made a huge difference. The Dorset Doddle is a much better event at a third of the price that includes transport. I shall stick to VoTwo & Extreme Energy events in future.

In short: Excellent well organised event
In full: One of the best organised half marathons around and although not flat, the downs compensate for the ups. Makes a change to enter a race on the day (personal circumstances meant I couldn't commit until race day) and Worksop Harriers should be proud of all those who helped stage this race. One comment I would like to make is how selfish the lady wearing a Moorlands vest was in deliberately throwing down her empty gel packet on one of the roads within Clumber Park...she should be ashamed of herself in not carrying it to the next water station.
