In short: Great location can't wait to do this one in better weather. In full: The location and route of this marathon is along a quieter part of the towpath. The start and finish point is an old English pub which looked after us very well on the day. In fact it was so comfortable that I did not want to go outside into the pouring rain. We had the towpath to ourselves, even the ducks had thrown in the towel and scampered off looking for cover. The route is very good 4 times backwards and forwards along the towpath. Always bumping into fellow runners encouraging each other. Water points are at spot on locations. During better weather there are more people along this stretch, there are also many rowing races, so can get a bit busier but not like Kingston, Richmond and Putney. I would like to do this one in spring, it should be quiet fast with a finish at the pub, excellent organisation and great marshals. Any chance Rik ? Date of review: November 25, 2014
In short: Great event .. In full: Great location very mixed terrain. Up to Leith hill tower you have relatively straightish track on okayish ground. After the tower it turns into a twisting turning up down and all over the place broken up trail, really tested my knees. You have to be alert all the time can't switch off. On a number of occasions I uttered the magic," words never again.." Great support from marshals and other runners gets you round this course. Needless to say I will be back next year.
In short: FANTASTIC MARSHALLS AND ORGANIZATION. THANK YOU!! In full: Lovely friendly run. I will be doing this run again next year. The hills were okay, running on the sand and soft track was great my dodgy old knees feel fine today. Also my first marathon without a blister or discoloured toenail. Great day see you next year. In short: Chocolate mint browniesall the way round best fuel !!!!! In full: Great day nice steady run no hills(yippee) good weather lots of shade. I have put my name down for the winter version of this already even though I was convinced that I was not doing it as I have another one the week before. The loop at the end hopefully will be moved to the beginning this will give the run a much better finish. Where I went wrong was that I did not eat enough of the chocolate mint brownies, on November 1st will endeavour to improve my intake. Date of review: August 29, 2014
In short: Enjoyable but hard.. I will do this one again next year. In full: Thank you very much to the marshals and supporters on making this a great day. I can see this marathon growing in popularity over the next few years. Its a low key hard run / stagger up the hills. Great route, although you have to keep your wits about you(as some tape had been pulled down) all the time its easy to veer off course, but as long as you follow the vanguard way posts it was okay . Maybe more paint next year. I will be doing this one next year. Date of review: August 5, 2014
In short: LOVED IT GREAT DAY !!!!! looking forward to the next one already ....... In full: Thank you to all the marshals who made this a superb day, without them I would not have got round the course. A special thanks to the lady that helped me up when I tripped on a tree root and then gave me some melon this was much appreciated. Thank you to the family at the bottom of the hill by the stepping stones every time I saw them they gave me a huge boost before tackling the steps again. I did the midsummer munro 2 years ago I looked at my medal and then I looked at the picnic medal, I wanted a marathon medal. Although doing the half marathon is a major achievement I had set myself a goal to do the picnic. To anyone contemplating doing the picnic in 2 years time, do it!! The second half believe it or not I found was less painful than the first. You get into a sort of mish mash of a rhythm, it gets cooler with cloud cover, the hill is not so crowded and you know you have conquered it. On this, the longest day of the year, we were a real band of brothers and sisters trudging up and down Boxhill helping each other along the way. Well done Dr Rob. Great day see you at the Greensands marathon. Will I be doing the picnic again? Yes already looking forward to it.. As long as my little legs can hold out and I am around at the time I will be putting in my calendar as a regular event.
In short: Great see you next year !! In full: Great day very hot. Very well organised the marshals were superb. No matter where you were on the course someone was cheering you on. My wife loves the tee shirt. Great value for money and a great location. Thank you very much see you next year.
In short: Great day still have a smile on my face. In full: Great route I love the running area. First day out in the sunshine this year. I managed to land in the middle of the only big puddle left on the course, kept my footing just. Raised a laugh from behind me. It was good fun after a hard winter. Looking forward to the next Trionium event. Big thank you to the excellent marshals and organisers ..... Date of review: March 18, 2014
In short: Hard, gives you a sense of achievement In full: I would like to thank the marshals, organisers photographers and all the helpers on making a great day. An awful lot of people went into making this event a real success. The wind was horrendous at times, and some of the puddles could easily have swallowed me up. But, the help and encouragement got me through and I feel that any other marathon that I do this year will be a lot easier. See you next year, I need to improve on my time.
Thanks very much on a great day.... Date of review: March 4, 2014
