In short: Great day In full: Ran the half, from Charlton Clumps to Stonehenge. It's a little hilly, but nothing silly, and all on good tracks. Distance was about 19.7km rather than 21km per my Garmin. At the start of the half there was talk of a slight course change (no loop round the field to start with) and I wonder whether we turned right (near the end) too early? There were no officials or signs that I could see at the turning so it was a little confusing. Only other niggle was the lack of portaloos at Charlton Clumps - three was just not enough and meant that lots of people were still queuing as the race was starting.
All in all however it was a great day, weather was kind, although a little hot towards the end, and the bus and kit transfers all worked very smoothly. Great to have food, drink and free massages laid on at the end. Date of review: May 7, 2013

In short: Silky smooth organisation, fast course, friendly runners and marshals In full: Third year in a row I've run the Salisbury 10. Really well organised with loads of helpful, friendly, marshals and plenty of water stops. Nice T shirt to finish with. It's quick, flat (other than a couple of small, quick climbs) and it's my second PB in two years. Thanks to all the organisers for another great race! Date of review: March 10, 2013

In short: Mud, wind, hills - great fun In full: Very well organised - thanks to everyone involved - especially the marshalls standing out in the wet. Hilly, wet, slippy and muddy and a bit more than 10k according to my Garmin. Great fun. Decent goody bag at the end, nice slate coaster and excellent cakes on offer. Date of review: April 30, 2012

In short: Mud, hills and lots of fun In full: Really enjoyed this one. Two laps for the 10.5km run. Lots of twists and turns along muddy tracks in woodland, water, short sharp hills and claggy fields. Organisation and signage was excellent, good warm up session and a nice friendly crowd of runners. Thanks to all the organisers for a great event. Date of review: March 17, 2012

In short: Well organised, good communication from organisers, a few hills but a pretty quick course In full: I enjoyed this run a lot. Weather was just about perfect, nice friendly crowd with a good mix of abilities, and whilst there was a few hills they weren't too steep or long. (I managed a pb anyway.). Organisation all seemed pretty good so thx to all those involved. Date of review: February 26, 2012

2012 Brighton Half Marathon
 | | Overall score | | 60% | | Would you do it again? | | Maybe | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 80% | | PB potential | | 80% | | Atmosphere | | 60% | | Organisation | | 40% | | Value | | 40% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 80% |
In short: Happy with my PB - especially as it was over 13.5 miles In full: I think that a new cone putter outer should be recruited next year as the turn on Marine Drive was a lot further than last year - the main cause of the extra distance (my GPS read 13.5 miles). I didn't pick up a "goody" bag but perhaps the money had gone on all those extra cones judging from the other comments?
A shame really as this could be a fantastic race.
It's pretty much flat as a pancake so I still managed a PB and enjoyed the day. Date of review: February 19, 2012

In short: Stunning scenery, well organised, good start to the New Year In full: A very enjoyable race. A 2 lap course with one mildly challenging hill that seems a lot steeper on the second pass. The scenery was really stunning and the course is well surfaced even though off road.
Organisation generally very good with lots of marshals and only small possible improvements. The distance markers were a little confusing as someone else has said - the 5k and 10k markers look the same and certainly for the 10k indicate distance remaining. I was relying on my Garmin and the measurements did seem to be pretty accurate. Would certainly be good to colour code between the 5k and 10k markers if possible.
Water stop was quite easy to miss, but it was a cool day so didn't actually use it and some Marshals could have been a little more vocally supportive - it really does help in the latter stage of the race.
All in all though a really excellent race - thanks to all the organisers. A great way to feel a little better about all that Xmas excess - will be back next year. Date of review: January 3, 2012

In short: A great race In full: A fantastic race. Great organisation, nice goody bag at the end, plenty of water stops and encouragement along the route. Beautiful day for it too: lack of rain recently meant that there wasn't too much mud, which I can't say I was sorry about when heading up those hills towards the end of the race. Thanks to the organisers - really impressive - will be back next year. Date of review: October 24, 2011

In short: Wet, but fun In full: A damp day, but nice and cooling, and all in all a really good race. The course is pretty much flat all the way round (2 laps) with only a couple of short inclines. It was a bit crowded on the first lap as some of the paths are narrow so there was a bit of puddle and people dodging going on.
Loads of water stops and good marshalling - although a little bad tempered in a couple of instances "GET OFF THE PAVEMENT - STAY ON THE ROAD".
Mezza Luna, the Italian restaurant in the park and nothing to do with the race, was comically bad. We'd arrived early (as per the instructions) to pick up the number and family were going to have a bite to eat whilst I ran. Restaurant was far from full but even so had stopped serving food at 1.15pm as they "were too busy". Who could have predicted they would be busy on race day?
Lots of stuff to keep the kids happy (bouncy castles and the like), and a friendly crowd of runners and supporters.
Really enjoyable day, and a very usable running shirt to take away. Thanks to the organisers, will definitely be back next year.

2011 Hearts First Jog - Wilton House
 | | Overall score | | 80% | | Would you do it again? | | Yes | | | | Details: | | Scenery | | 100% | | PB potential | | 60% | | Atmosphere | | 80% | | Organisation | | 80% | | Value | | 80% | | Beginner-friendliness | | 80% |
In short: Beautiful scenery, well organised In full: Run through the beautiful grounds of Wilton House, this is entirely off road, and has a bit of a hill at about 3.5 km and again at 7 km. The run itself was great, but there were a couple of niggles with the organisation: Firstly I almost didn't turn up - the flier (which I didn't look at until the morning of the race)stated a 10.00am start - I'd got it in my diary from somewhere that it was 11.00am. I noticed this at about 10.30am when we were just leaving (oops) - luckily I checked the website which had big red letters saying that the race was actually at 11.00am.
Secondly, last year was lovely for the kids as they played in the adventure playground in the grounds of Wilton House - this year the elf and safety police were out and they were shouted off the wooden climbs, which was a shame.
All in all a very good race though. Date of review: March 13, 2011
