In short: Mud, cuts and sliding on your butt. Do you laugh or weep? In full: I've never tried anything other than straightforward fell races before. First off, if you're alright with getting cuts here and there, then you'll probably manage though. You may be best off with more than a vest though: part of the race involves carrying a standard car tyre which may dig into your shoulders. You've also got a few miles of running down and up streams; there's some scrambling up and sliding down banks; there's some flat, some inclines and some steep , but nothing prolonged. There's swimming, climbing and crawling. A standard 5k will feel like a walk to the bottom of the lane after this. In the end I got an extremely good result though, and the organisers and regulars are great people with a supportive crowd at the end and a community spirit, with the remainder of your entry fee going to charity. They've drawn out a surprisingly scenic run around quiet paths and parks that seems quite far from the Manchester sprawl. The second time I had to carry a tyre with me really made me question what I was doing, but in my short racing history, I've never felt better about finishing a race. It's something spectacular.
