In short: Outstanding In full: OK, so i'm biased since i ran a PB, but considering a few steady inclines and killer of a hill between 2mile and 3mile, this is still a quick course. The final mile is a tough long road and tests you mentally.
2014 edition of CHM brought out the heat and what a great day it was. Crowds were out in their numbers enjoying the day and were full of support. Provisional results were up near near HQ almost instantly.
This is my second year of CHM and thoroughly enjoyed it all over again Date of review: March 17, 2014
In short: Good race-potential for a great one In full: Despite a few minor things here and there, this race was well organised and the spirits were high.
'Running and Riding' have organised many great races including the A20 path and Downs race, that stands great on any fellows race calender. Headcorn 2014 being its first race wasn't without a few creases that'll iron out in time. The mud at the start is clearly related to recent weather and the HQ, I've read was a last minute job as they were let down elsewhere...i digress.
Fantastic community spirit will see this small village half marathon become a quick success in the years it has ahead of it. A quick course with well stocked stations, chip timing and a good looking medal. Bargain Date of review: February 25, 2014
In short: Mud and Hills and Laps In full: Mud, hills and laps in the same sentence....but really enjoyed the challenging course. Having been given access to the Olympic 2012 mountain bike course for a second year, the 3 laps consisted of a steep inclines, fast muddy slippy declines and plenty of rocks. The hills were demanding but not enough to put you off. Marshalls made the rain easily bearable and the medal was a nice souvenir. Being the time of year for a coldness, i was disappointed there were no refreshments for tea and coffee, and the distance was cut short due to the recent weather. Both these facts would not put me off for entering in the future. Date of review: January 27, 2014
In short: A muddy good race In full: I completed this last year in the snow and found it very challenging. After changing the course slightly and running it mild weather with plenty of mud, it felt like a completely different beast all together. I loved this last year, and loved it again this year. the hill at the end of the course was horrific. Would i do it again? HELL YES! It's the law! Date of review: January 20, 2014
In short: Could be challenging but thoroughly enyoyable In full: The rain at the beginning of the race was horrific but didn't dampen anyone's spirits once we got going. The drums at the start line got the heart pumping as the rain fell.
I really enjoyed the multi-terrain, it definately added to the experience. The water stations were well stocked of water, juice, mulled wine and brandy, gels, mince pies, sweets, jaffa cakes and bananas.
A friend of mine who raced in front of me mentioned he ran the shingle on the return and it was almost knee deep.
When i came to this section, a diversion had been put in place. This was my only gripe for the race and in my opinion, should be looked at for the future. I can only assume i was first on the diversion and i was told to follow the yellow triangles. They were spaced too far from each other, and i can only assume the turning point was marked well enough. Me and few runners had to find our own way back to the promenade and rejoin the race. There weren't any marshals on this part of the course and i think it could have been organised better. This resulted in covering an additional third of a mile. Not a huge amount but a few minutes worth at least.
I did however, really enjoy this race and did score a marathon PB. I'll definitely be booking a place next year Date of review: December 23, 2013
In short: HEATWAVE made dfficult running In full: The race was ok, course was very accurate and there were no major issues. The race started on time. The heat was almost unbearable for me. Had it been cooler, i would have been much happier with my finish time but that's beyond anyones control. Make it a bit earlier perhaps?
The only issues for me was the control of the traffic, i was under the impression it was traffic free but felt somewhat under a lot of pressure when an Audi was sitting on my arse trying to pass.
Overall, a challenging HOT race Date of review: July 1, 2013
In short: HOME RUN In full: I wasn't so sure about doing laps in my home town, i thought i'd get bored, but i actually enjoyed it very much. Had the weather been a bit nicer, it may have brought extra crowds out and made the delay at the beginning a bit easier to bear.
However, apart from the last few miles which took on half the parkrun course, the course was very flat and i took 10mins off my half mara PB. all my friends also gained a PB. if i could recommend a race, it'd be this one.
My only gripe was the confusion and crowding at the finishers funnel. Date of review: June 10, 2013
In short: Unique setting, good PB potential but tough in places In full: Weather was bitter, but to get a chance to run around the grounds and test track of the FORD Dunton Test Track was a unique opportunity for any motor enthusiast.
Cambered sections on the 2 lap race were pretty tough, especially on the backside of the track which hosted a pretty steep incline.
Besides what I would consider a tough race in places, 3 friends and I all managed to hit PBs. Will definitely be attending next year Date of review: February 25, 2013
In short: Full of spirit but challenging conditions In full: Despite the snow making the course tricky and unique, the scenery was outstanding as were the marshalls high spirits for the day. Hats off to the marshalls for standing out in it for hours on end. Very well organised and a great sense of acheivement Date of review: January 21, 2013
In short: Definitely worth getting up for In full: This was my first half marathon and 2nd trail run. But my shoes tackled the mud and hills perfectly.I found the hills quite brutal towards the end but they were part of the challenge. I suffered with a previous knee injury but still crossed the line in a respectable time for my experience. The organisers where helpful and supportive and made the experience worthwhile. One of the sponsors didn't turn up which I found to be rather disrespectful but that didn't effect the race. I'll definitely consider doing this again next year and beat my time Date of review: November 1, 2012
