In short: Great half marathon In full: My race wasn't great but that was the runner not the course. It starts at Woking and everything seemed well organised and not crowded. Start was a slightly crowded affair but nothing to worry about and 400m in your out onto the roads which are wide and allow for a good pace (although mine was rubbish). Crowds were great at the start but obviously running through the countryside there isn't much of an atmosphere. It did help that there was a loop back section so you can see the front runners and try and spot friends.
First 10k is flat but it starts to undulate towards the end, nothing major but enough to sap those tired legs, thankfully the final few km are flat and were well supported.
Nice medal, great protein balls (yum yum) although could have done with a bit more water.
Not the organisers fault but Costa in the park only had one person serving so a coffee took nearly three weeks but otherwise a good day all round and will be doing again. Date of review: March 8, 2015
In short: Great race in the woods In full: The race is 4 x 12.5 laps around a lake then 9k in the woods. The first lap was a bit of a disaster as the guy we were following took a wrong turn and we ended up taking a short cut but once back on track we were fine.
Two things for next year, the start is very tight and the first 3k is mainly single track so very hard to get a good pace going as passing was near impossible, and people running together side by side don't make it easy once we got out on the bridal paths.
The rest of the race was great with lots of food and drink at the food station including coffee and coke and so much good food. The t-shirt is very nice, the medal is so-so.
All in all a great race worth doing. Date of review: November 9, 2014
In short: First race bit chaotic at the start but otherwise great In full: I have to agree about the start, was crowded into the starting pen well ahead of where I should have been but could not move back so maybe next year a bit better signage.
Course was undulating and not flat as I thought although not a bad thing. A few locals decided to try and drive down the closed roads but you can never please everybody, but chaotic again towards the end where only half the road was closed but traffic was going both ways.
Water, banana, t-shirt and medal all very welcome and as a first race it was overall very good. No where near PB but enjoyable none the less. Date of review: September 21, 2014
In short: Fast flat and fun In full: A great race, slow at the start where there are a few funnel points which add a minute or so to your time and early on there are places where the course is a bit tight so getting past club runners 3 or 4 abreast isn't always easy but it soon opens out and you can get a steady pace going. The course is nice and flat but not a huge amount of support.
This would be great for those chasing a PB, I managed to PB but the last 1km is slightly uphill so no sprint finish. No goody bag but plenty of water and bananas at the end. The only other niggle is the water stations are cups which I dislike and would prefer water bags or bottles.
All in all really enjoyed and will be doing it again. Date of review: September 7, 2014
In short: Not flat but great course In full: Ok this course is not flat. 203m of elevation which compares to Reading at 78m and Southend which was flat at 48m so there are hills, most not that bad but when you start off and the first few k are downhill you know you have to come back up. The finish is also uphill so those sprinters are gonna hurt !!!
Overall the course is spectacular, there are parts along the road with one side coned off but traffic coming in the opposite direction but only about 2 miles and very rural.
Getting out was the usual hour long sit in traffic but gave my legs time to recover. Date of review: October 7, 2013
In short: Great fun race In full: Nice flat course apart from a few small bumps towards the end. The idea of loops initially put me off but I have to say it was great. I had a friend faster than me and we could high 5 each other every few miles which was great. You would think loops would be boring but not at all, I really enjoyed it and will be back next year. In short: Wet and wild but great fun In full: For slow people like me no silver blankets which in freezing conditions was not great but otherwise a fantastic day despite hail and snow. The support was amazing and seeing people by the side of the road in the hail was special. Date of review: March 22, 2013
