In short: Nice flat course, nice support, sunny (six years out of six) but organisation could be better In full: My sixth time running this marathon and yet again a change to the route! However, I liked it. Missed Woolaton Park and the city centre hills, but liked the Boots Campus, University and Colwick Park. Less running up and down Holme pierrepoint is good too - could we avoid it altogether though?! I also thought the support on route was good, very active supporters.
What could have been better? Toilet queues - very disorganised, we arrived at 8.30 and ended up with only 10 minutes to get to the start. Start pens - there didn't seem to be any vetting. I was in red but surrounded by a rainbow of other colours. Start gun and timing - never heard any start gun and my chip and gun times are both the same, despite starting at the very back of the red pen. Water - those pouches.....nice to carry, but some were really hard to get the water out of. Nice idea if they worked consistently. Good to see impromptu water stations set up later in the race, but why aren't these planned for? Six out of six times at Nottingham and its always been hot and sunny! No separation of runners and pedestrians/spectators - really not great along the embankment from about mile 23 to home with rowers, cyclists, families just wandering in front of runners. At the turn around the end of the suspension bridge I turned the corner to run straight in to a small child (they were OK as I was able to lift them up, but if they'd gone to ground......). Finish area island - the design of the finish meant that runners and spectators were corralled within the race route, so coming in to the finish of the marathon it was a miracle no runners got mown down by people leaving, bikes, dogs, pushchairs all just crossing the race route....
Nice medal though.... Date of review: September 29, 2014
In short: Brilliant! Really great day out from the course to the support to the organisation. It was even sunny! In full: My fifth Coventry Half marathon and, definitley the best! Loved the new course, feels quick. Great support pretty much all the way around. Very good organisation. What more can you ask? A great feel good day out! Date of review: March 24, 2014
In short: Superb organisaton as ever, new course should be quicker, bigger field added to atmmosphere In full: Love this race. Fantastic setting for the start/finish, superb organisation, great marshalls. New course feels quicker, but not in yesterday's wind! Bigger field defintley boosted the atmosphere too. In short: Great course, perfect organisation, great course. Proper trail race and very inclusive. In full: Such a great atmosphere. Welcoming to club runners and first timers (and even walkers). Nice mixed terrain, well marshalled, overall organisation is excellant. Put it in your diary every year! Date of review: September 1, 2013
In short: Perfect weather, nicely challenging course, vocal marshalls. In full: Second year running the new course and still really like it. Weather was perfect this year (unlike the 2011 heat wave), cold with clear blue cloudless skies.
Very easy getting to the start, small toilet queues, runners standing in the right 'pens' before the start. Almost perfect!
Marshalls were a lot more vocal this year, encouraging all the runners and lots of small groups of locals out cheering.
Improved my time by two minutes on last year and ran a negative split – helped by the fact the first half is uphill, the second down!
Still a few minor niggles: collecting race numbers from Decathlon on Saturday was a pain, and a bit disorganised. No marshal or arrow (that I could see) at Allesley Village so I nearly went the wrong way. The route through Broadgate was far too tight, those corners really difficult to take at speed and the finish is a bit devoid of people who can’t see you until you are almost over the line.
Apart from that a great race and will probably run it again!!
In short: Awesome! Some of the most enjoyable running I've ever done. In full: Loved running passed so many iconic London landmarks and, at the start, running on traffic free, almost deserted roads. Well organised, well signed, flat, perfect weather. What more could you want? And, all in support of the fantastic work Scope does working to make a very real difference to the lives of people with disabilities. Date of review: October 10, 2012
In short: Excellant race, very good organisation, just a bit windy! In full: Ditto all the good things that have been said below. Despite the wind ran 3 minutes faster than last time I did this race, and it was bright and sunny! Date of review: November 27, 2011
