In short: A really nice race. A bit more undulating than expected In full: I was supposed to be doing this with a friend but he opted for the 10k instead. The parking was hassle free and the xscape is a great venue as there's so many food outlets and shops for your waiting friends and family. the start was confusing with the lead marshal not having any amplification so hardly anyone could hear him. I think everyone got under way safely. The course itself was good but a bit of a tester. A bit more up and down than I was expecting (definitely not pancake flat). there were also a lot of bollards and a few bottlenecks . the support was nice and it was really tempting to stop for a pint at a couple of the pubs on the way round. the marshals were really nice although if i hear oggy oggy oggy one more bloody time. Loads of runners of all abilities and the atmosphere was pretty friendly so beginners should be happy with this race. Not sure £18 for their technical top was worth it and yes a banana would have been nice. I did like the medal but it's always a shame though when they don't even get it out of the bag for you, although with nearly 2500 runners i can understand why. A really good race although only my 2nd half marathon. Will definitely do it again next year Date of review: March 10, 2014
In short: Very tough cross country race In full: Ran this with 3 friends who aren't full on runners. It was the first cross country experience for all of us and it was interesting.
I can't fault the marshals one bit apart from the fact that there were no mile markers. Had no idea as to how far I had run as with stream crossings my phone would have got wet so no gps. But the marshals were reall nice even after having to catch a 15 stone bloke after jumping a stream. A nice brass medal at the end and good atmosphere. I'll do it again but the conditions were very tough Date of review: February 16, 2014
In short: Fast, flat ish 10k with a bit of scenery In full: This was a well organised ( my 2nd beds harriers event hassle free)and well supported event. a flat course with a bump one quite steep motorway bridge and that's it.
I started at the back of the runners and had to really work hard to get through the slower runners as the course is quite narrow to begin with. The only other complaint I had was the smell. a real horrible smell of poo ruined the scenery for me a bit along some of the paths. Otherwise a great out and back course. Chip timed too. Very happy with my tshirt and a free cake at the end. Will definitely do it again Date of review: September 8, 2013
In short: flat? Really? still a great run In full: This course is undulating/hilly not flat. The first hill is hard going. I did a lot of hill work in prep but it was still hard. The last 3km aren't sign posted. I saw a 7km sign but no 8 or 9 k signs. The marshals were very good. The water stops were nice and well placed. The last kilometre is very dangerous. The gradient is unbelievably steep going down. The course is tight in places and the footing is not always good as it's been churned up by tractors and horses. Still i really enjoyed it as my first 10k race ever and i look forward to doing it again next year. I didn't receive a good bag at the end but all I really wanted was a certificate to prove i'd done the race. Date of review: June 9, 2013
