In short: A good morning
In full: This was my first southend half marathon (but 6th overall). Apart from the lousy weather it was a good run although running up and down the seafront 4 times (over two laps) was a bit boring.

Anyway I knocked 9 minutes 7 secs of my PB so job done for this year!

In short: a new PB for me
In full: Should be better next year when the Olympic park will be finished. Compared to other 10ks in London this comes 2nd (behind the bupa 10,000). Great goody bag which is always a bonus!

In short: Disappointed with the event
In full: Negatives:
1. You cannot dink from plastic cups whilst running!
2. Where was the music? I left my Ipod at home so that I could run to the beat.
3. Queuing for my bag was insane and freezing.
4. Chips that get laced into the shoe so you have to unlace your shoe at the end isnt great for runners who have trouble walking at the end let alone bending over(not me but there are many who would have struggled).
5. Having to buy the official t-shirt was a first for me.
6. I know the organisers have no control over the transport but it was apalling. London Transport knew of the problems in the morning and come 1pm it was still a farce to get away (I was still at the 02 at 3pm)

Positives
1. A new PB
2. Good crowd support in some areas.

In full: It could be better if:
- you aren't 'bullied' into using the bag drop in order to get your medal and goodie bag (plus being advised to padlock your bag didnt give me any faith in the organisation)
- All setting of in one go was a nightmare as I was running past walkers after 1 minute!!!
- Paying the additional fee of chip timing is a rip off. It should be all or none because my stats don't tell me where I finished against non chipped runners

In short: Done it 4 years running but 05 was my last time. Far to many people taking part and many who think they can run it in 2 hours but walk within 10 minutes getting in the way of other runners
