In short: Great race for runners and supporters In full: This is the first time I've run this race and although it didn't go to plan in terms of my time (unlike for most people who get a PB) I did enjoy it.
I was at the back for a lot of it and if you prefer to be in a race with a lot of people but you're not very fast this is something to consider as you will be either on your own or in a very small group for a lot of the race.
The course itself was good, the lanes were wide enough that you didn't feel cramped when being over taken and had sections where the hedges were high enough to provide a bit of shade to cool you down. When cars were passing the runners helped each other out by shouting 'car', this was not too often so didn't really have an impact on the race. From mile 5-7 the course is a bit more rough with pot holes and stones but didn't cause any problems. If like me you were struggling a bit the fact that I could see the finish line with 3 miles to go was not very motivating but I'm sure if you're on for a good time it would be!
The best part of this race though has to be the people who organise it, there is a clear passion for the event from everyone involved and they just what volunteers should be - I even saw someone wearing a Sport Maker t-shirt which proves the Olympic Legacy of volunteering lives on!! I must also mention the water girls who also clearly enjoyed trying to get the runners to pick them to take water from :)
All in all a very good race and with the lovely weather I couldn't fault it. Date of review: March 10, 2014
