In short: As much fun as you can have in a furry suit!! In full: Cracking event - from the moment you submit your entry, to getting the gorilla suit arrive, to the training and then to the race itself. Imagine 700 gorillas getting ready and then running round the centre of London - don't go expecting a fast time (though I was quite pleased to finish in the top third - despite frequent stops to demist my glasses, wave at sight seeing buses, join in tourists' photos, cuddle marshals and spectators...) - it's really not what this event is about! In short: Nice friendly race In full: I've been waiting to run this for years - so thank you to the organisers for going to chip timing so that I didn't have to time-keep! Thoroughly enjoyed the day, running round with a team mate for the half and then driving round to support the four Club mates in the marathon - or at least the two we could catch! In short: Absolutely stunning - despite the rain! In full: Thought the Red Kites that the organisers arranged to fly past the lakes as we dropped down the descent at 7 miles was a nice touch - it was a shame about the rain that set in but I had a good run and even managed a bit of oomph to get up through the High Street to a sprint finish!
The drive back to Somerset post-race was interesting in the heavy rain, and my legs didn't appreciate being made to get up and set the Sherborne Castle 10km course the next morning! Date of review: March 18, 2008
