In short: Great race parking a shambles In full: The race was good fun - nice scenic route and loads of support out around York although the numerous sharp bends and cobbles made it difficult to generate pace. Two sections at the end where people have to run back on themselves is a bit harsh - especially the last one as people going home come past that way.
The race was however ruined by the parking fiasco at the racecourse - it took me 45mins from the A64 to park on the way but leaving was the biggest shambles ever - over an hour to leave the car park and we didn't even move for 50 mins. Not enough wardens and those who were there weren't doing their job properly. Disappointing for such a costly race. Date of review: August 3, 2015
In short: Excellent race but shame about the wind In full: Fantastic race - great run through the city and parks and the last four miles were very scenic but the galeforce winds made it very hard work and it was a shame as with such a flat course a PB would be very possible otherwise.
Was a bit chaotic at the start but inevitable with the numbers.
Can't believe the complaints about the support - I thought there was loads of support on the route particularly in Sefton Park and it was heaving at the end. Loved that the race number had our name on as I got a few people cheering for me. Just a shame it was made difficult for spectators to cross over at the finish as it was hard to find people at the end but generally i thought the organisation was very good and I would recommend the race to anyone, and I will be back for sure. In short: Very well organised In full: Good race - parking very easy and all near the start - mainly flat with some small hills crossing over the motorway. There is no medal - just a towel and flowers for the ladies - I would always prefer a towel and a goody bag but it was organised by as run club and they did a great job. In short: Well organised and great PB potential In full: Great flat course- very well organised. Lots of marshalls but I have seen much more encouraging ones at other races. Good venue with excellent parking. The chips were a bit weird - they were ones that went in the shoe and loads of people had seemed to lose them at the beginning as the DJ kept annoucing they had been handed in. That's my only minor complaint though - I didn't see the dog! Good day out- well worth a run. Date of review: September 30, 2013
In full: Would love this race to be moved to a different time of the year - great PB potential but was just way too hot and this was exacerbated by the poor water stations. By 8 miles they were just handing out cups of water and then the next station was at about 12 miles - far too late and again just a cup, plus they had run out of water at the end. Disappoiting route given where they could have put it - too much turning back on yourself and covered the dullest part of the coast road - would have been much better the other way. Good medal but poor goody bag for the price. Timings only sent at the end of sunday and chip timing not available until monday and it looks to be about 2 mins out to me. Would have been better if there had been an official charity too. The fact that it was in July also meant by the end of the race Southport was really busy and you were having to weave in and out of people. There's great potential in Southport so let's hope it improves if they do it again. Date of review: July 9, 2013
In full: Brilliant race - great support and great course, apart from the evil killer hill at the end. Not great as a spectator as Chester was just too busy but as a runner it is fantastic finishing in the centre to a street of cheering people. Parking was fine but the traffic was pretty bad and it was hectic at the racecourse - just so busy so be careful not to lose who you are with. Overall though a fanastic race and experience.
