In short: The wet weather certainly added some spice to this years challenge. Well done to all those who made the start line. It was bleak, but well worth the effort for the views alone. In full: This was my first attempt at the distance, and well worth the effort. All those weeks of hard fought training miles couldn't have prepared me for the conditions under foot on the day, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. Some of the terrain was challenging for a novice trail runner. This was mainly down to the weather before and during the event. The trail crosses various farms en route, and many of the fields were freshly ploughed. Damn, that mud was sticky. I now know what it must be like to run in diving boots.
A big thanks to the organisers, and all those who turned out on the day to help - always with a smile. It must have been tough in that weather to stand there for hours at a time waiting for us runners and walkers to pass through the checkpoints. The signage and marshalling made the course easy to navigate. Maybe book the sunshine a bit earlier next time though eh? ;-) Date of review: October 31, 2013
In short: A great introduction to trail racing In full: The organisation was good, and the direction and support from the marshals was fantastic. The course was well laid out; A good mix of surfaces with a long, straight road section. Overall, the course was flat. The trails were quite hard underfoot (apart from a short sandy section), even with the recent rain. I (stupidly?) wore trail shoes, but could easily have got away with road shoes. I will be adding this race to my calander next year. Date of review: May 12, 2013
In short: My first Half Marathon In full: I really enjoyed my first Half Marathon. Very well organised, and the marshalls were brilliant. The hills were a good challenge, especially the second big one at the 10 mile point, when my legs were feeling heavy to say the least. I would love to do this race again next year.
