In short: Tough & Testing pre-marathon challenge
In full: I'd heard in advance about some of the hills on this course but found them to be mostly ok. The last 5k was the most difficult since you have to climb back up towards the start. Overall the distance feels a lot closer to marathon distance and is a true test of where you are in prep for a 42.2k challenge. Marshalls were excellent and I will definitely come back again. Thanks

In short: It's usually cold and windy, but the course is fast and flat and a good one for a PB. Great organisation and a good starter for beginners.

In short: Challenging - you either go up or down. There is very little flat!

In short: Best Newcomer in 2005
In full: I run a lot of road races and it was brilliant to finally run one close to home. The course is flat, there were plenty of spectators and runners and the organisation was faultless. Goody bag was a t-shirt and medal all for £10. Can't fault it, except for decision to go up against GNR next year.

In short: Fast and Flat (but usually windy). A very underrated race.
In full: As this is a local race for me I have done it on 4 or 5 occasions. It's only having done it in 2005 that I realised how underrated the race actually is. The organisation is absolutely excellent (rolling road closures / part of route coned off to protect from the traffic /a little bit of "off road" running)and now includes chip timing. The finish has a PA announcer and things to do for kids. The course is flat and fast (although dependant on the wind which is virtually guaranteed every year). A hiiden gem in my opinion. If you haven't ran Redcar before then I would recommend it.

In short: Perfect for a PB
In full: This is the fourth time I've done this race and will continue to return despite the 140 mile round trip. The race organiser at the start is worth the price of admission alone. Relatively flat (a very slight unoticeable incline going out means slightly downhill coming back) and always results in a quick time. Highly Recommended.

In short: Very enjoyable race.
In full: Very enjoyable race. First couple of miles felt very stadily uphill. This is followed by a very steep downhill section, but remember what goes down must come up (at least this is true in a circular 10K), and the hill between 4 and 5 mile is tough to say the least. Certainly not PB potential, but a really good tester to start off the year. Friendly atmosphere and good mix of running abilities,

In short: An excellent trail run which is ideal for runners of all abilities providing you can run up the final steep hill.
In full: A reasonable introduction to trail racing. The nature of the trails meant that it wasn't really muddy at all, but look out for the big sting in the tail at the end.

In short: This is the 15th time I have participated in and completed the GNR. It is what it is, a race for the masses and very different to most other races in the UK. A fairly flat course and fairly enjoyable. I'll be back next year for 16.
