In short: Well organised race with excellent PB potential In full: This is a fast course that attracts a good mix of runners of all levels.
Despite the late notification of additional road closures (nothing to do with the race), it was easy to get to the race with the roads well signposted. Parking was plentiful and speedy thanks to volunteers. Collecting the race number and chip was also easy.
The course is a flat 6km loop around some country roads (so you're going around again for the last 4km), all closed off to traffic. Not as scenic as I was expecting but still pleasant enough. Marshalls were in good numbers and supportive, as were the locals.
This is a race I will definitely take part again in future. Date of review: September 2, 2013
In short: A good race let down by the start and end In full: This was a good race overall. The course isn't pancake flat, there are some inclines to tackle but nothing too severe - just right for me. I live in the area that the course goes through and I'll be the first to admit that it isn't pretty. I like that it starts and finishes on the athletics track. Getting a sprint on towards the finish line felt really good.
The start of the race involved completing about a lap and a half of the track and then exiting out of the arena. I only knew this because I heard the announcement on the PA beforehand but I suspect that a lot of people didn't catch this. There was nothing to stop people from moving over to the outside lanes and impeding the front runners who had already completed their lap. Also, once outside the arena I was passing a lot more people than what was in front of me before the race started so I wonder how many people actually did the full lap.
The queue after the end of the race was bad. Single file for about 20 minutes (I've heard others waited even longer) and for a rucksack and bag (ok) and samples of toothpaste, shampoo and sweetner (makes me wish I didn't bother). The organisers have said that they prioritised getting volunteers outside to hand out water, which is fair enough because it was really hot, but at least make the goody bag something worth waiting that time for.
Also, my chip time is over a minute quicker than what I recorded on my watch, which is a pretty big discrepancy whatever the reason for it is.
I'd probably do the race again, it's local and the course is to my liking. Improve on the above (and the organisation in general) and I'd happily recommend it. Date of review: July 14, 2013
In short: Challenging and fun course, well organised with great, supportive marshalls In full: Another novice here. This was the second race I've taken part in. If all races are like this then I'm well up for doing more!
Two laps with some challenging hills near the start but fairly flat for the rest of the course. Some narrow sections but I didn't have too much trouble getting past or letting people through. A good challenge for all.
The race was really well organised. Collecting the race number before the race was simple enough. There were a good number of marshals around the course and all were friendly and supportive. The onion bhajis after the finish were a welcome surprise.
Looking forward to taking part next year. Date of review: July 8, 2013
