In short: Ran out of water! In full: I got to the 6m water station and there was no water left. Criminal on a day like yesterday. I did find out, though, from a runner who was near the front of the pack, that some were taking 2 or 3 pouches? I think that, especially in view of the heat, the volunteers should only have allowed one per runner. I spoke to one guy yesterday who had had no water for 9 miles!
I couldn't work out why mile 8 had water and lucozade at the same time? Makes more sense to have the lucozade a bit before the water so that runners can wash it down a bit.
Mile markers were way out! And we didn't see a 7m marker at all - I had a worried runner next to me!
The finish was definitely a LOT further than it should have been from the 13m mark which I 'think' was in about the right place.
Not sure if I would do this one again unless the water issue was ironed out properly. Date of review: June 23, 2014
In short: Oh what fun! In full: Really, 17 loops doesn't sound ideal but for some reason this marathon really works. The organisation is slick and smooth, the support on the course (apart from Tourette's Hill where it could really do with a band or something!) is brilliant. The shouts over the loudspeaker as we came round each lap was fantastic. The goody box is food! That was appreciated for the drive home. And as for the medal. Well, what can I say? So big and heavy!!!!
I've already entered for next year and am looking forward to it greatly! Date of review: June 5, 2014
In short: My favourite! In full: Went back to do this for the 5th time and have already signed up for next year :) Brilliant organisation! Lovely scenery! Friendly Marshall's! The whole thing from start to finish is superb :) Date of review: October 2, 2013
In short: Love it! Love it! Love it! In full: 4th time I have done this one and its well worth the journey from London to Inverness. Brilliant organisation. Brilliant scenery. Love it! Date of review: October 22, 2011
In short: Pretty course, brilliant marshalls In full: No goody bag for on the day entries? I thought that was a bit cheeky seeing that we paid more to enter today. Not impressed at all. Spoilt the race for me as I was wondering if I would even get a medal!!!!!! Date of review: March 27, 2011
In short: Well organised, well marshalled event In full: The addition of port-a-loos and chip timing was good. I was using this as part of a 19m training run so was doing it very slowly - the marshalls were cheerful and encouraging even though I was right at the back of the field! In short: Well organised race In full: Couple of glitches like the very narrow part where you had to go in single file (cost me over a minute there) but on the whole a very good race. Accurately measured. It has actually made me feel proud to live in Newham :) Definitely be back next year. Date of review: April 19, 2009
