In short: Great race!! In full: Well done to the organisers, a great race well marshelled and supported. Would love to see a chip rather than the current magic wand setup. It's about the only possible improvement!! Date of review: October 16, 2006
In short: Good flat route, well marshelled and generally well organised In full: A little bit clubby but overall a good atmosphere with a well marshelled flat route.
The organisation was good although let down a bit by the start which was a bit chaotic! Please put a line down next year so that us folk at the back actually know where it is! Date of review: July 24, 2006
In short: Fantastic!!! In full: Crowds were better than ever. Organisation was flawless, pasties were tasty!!! The route has it's challenges ?!! especially the last mile up past the Citadel but it is worth it to finish on the Hoe. Wonderfull!! Date of review: June 22, 2006
In short: Friendly race with a nice course In full: Friendly race with a nice well marshalled course with mixed tarmac and forest paths. A bit muddy in places but that just adds to the fun! Couple of very minor niggles which can be easily rectified for next year and didn't really detract from a fun race, The funnelling through the gateway immediately after the start, which caused the run to come to a standstill, could easily be avoided by making the start line / area the same width as the gate with a couple of bits of tape. I also agree with previous comments about too many folk wandering around in the finish area / last part of the course and the absence of any water at the finish. Date of review: May 2, 2006
In short: An excellent race In full: Run on nice smooth tarmac with scenery interesting enough for the 2 laps. Chip timing always nice. Track is flat and has definite PB potential. Very well organised and run on the day. Date of review: March 6, 2006
In short: Fantastic race. Great organisation, great support , great fun. In full: A great race over a challenging course. good support around the route from the folk of Plymouth. finish was excellent the runners only area was a real winner allowing a bit of chillout time and the opportunity for a pasty or 2 or 3. Best event I've done and will be back to fight my way up the finishing hill past the citadel again next year! Date of review: July 5, 2005
In short: Potentially great actually terrible In full: This has the potential to be really good but was let down so badly by very very poor organisation at the start and finish.
The start was a complete disgrace. No communication no organisation and worst of all no facilities. Where were the promised facilities in the “holding” area and at the start? This was amateur beyond belief especially for a so called premier event. The trees in Green Park should have a bumper year after all of the folks who had to make unscheduled visits. The finish was so poorly marked I missed it. Ran past the clocks thinking it must be close where are the banners? Signs? Something? anything... Realised I had crossed it when everyone else stopped running. Why was the large inflatable arch about 800m out not at the finish?? The route was great in places especially through Trafalgar Square but suffered badly from too many loop backs. The last one so close to the "finish” was particularly pointless. Why not finsh further up the road near admiralty arch? ,had to walk up there to get to bags and medals anyway, or on the mall?? That way the loop over Westminster bridge could be removed.
Value wise this was an expensive very poorly organised event. The decision of the organisers that everyone within the M25 had to pick up there race packs from central London showed incredible arrogance and lack of thought. No goody bag, no vouchers as detailed in the brochure, no champion chip makes it very difficult to justify the high entry fee
The scenery and good humour of the vast majority of the participants, made up for some of the deficiencies but nowhere near enough.
The only reason to do this again is the opportunity to run through a traffic free central London and then only for a vastly reduced entry fee.
In short: Excellent V.V. friendly marshalls In full: Hardwork in the wind!!! Well organised and superbly marshelled. Many thanks to all those who turned out to stand on a corner. Date of review: February 14, 2005
In short: Good fun but runners need to graded on time, additional water stops needed and some signs to / from the station would be a real adavatage!! In full: Overall good fun and largely well organised but, isn't there always a but???, a few little things which will go a long way to improving the race!!! 1. Grade the runners on time so that slow folk like me don't frustrate the speedsters and people who are walking six abreast down the route don't frustrate us both!! 2.Some signs to or a map in the brochure of the location of the station relative to the would really have helped. 3.Better organisation of water stations, In particular put some signs up saying which side of the road they are on so folk who don't want a drink can move out of the way of those who do and vice versa!
