I ran the course last week in reasonably grippy Inov-8 trail/off-road shoes. Squelchy in places, but on the top of the hill and through the woods the underfoot conditions are very good. It's a great race by the way - I'll be on the finish line doing the times so if you slip me a £5 I'll make sure you get a PB.
In all honesty I agree with you. I personally race to race, not for the goody bag. I'm not bothered about medals, mugs or any other flim flam. Water and maybe a banana at the end is nice. The atmosphere at the last event was enough to get me back, and I'd much prefer the max money went to the good causes.
