Hi Esther

We have something in common. I have been out for 8 months due to a back injury - I made the mistake of when it first started - I ran through it - silly me!

Anyway I got the all clear 3 weeks ago to restart but only doing 2 runs per week and keeping mileage below 5 miles. Thats ok for now as ive lost all my fitness.

I was devastated on my first run back - it was SO HARD!!! When I last ran I was at half marathon distance having trained for the Birmingham Half Marathon.

Anyway - the fact that Im back out there again is delightful and ive not long returned from my 6th return run (jog) lol. Im still taking walk breaks - I cant do the whole distance without a break - not yet - but I know I'll get there.

I did nowt when I was injured - and I mean nowt so subsequently I gained a whopping 1.5 stone in 8 months. Hopefully I'll see that start to go over the coming weeks/months.

Great to know you had the "happy" feeling. Im currently experiencing it to, its the best drug!!

Hi NN

Brilliant progress - Im so jealous at your 9lb weight loss!!!! And great milestone on the 1 mile non stop run. Its great when consistency starts to pay off.

Ive just returned to running after an 8 month break due to a back injury so I am just warming up and getting my running legs back on again - hard work but admittedly not as hard as when I started to run for the very first time.

Ive got some weight to lose too - managed to gain 1.5 stone whilst injured - stoopid stoopid me!!!! I didnt adjust my eating to compensate for my forced sedentary lifestyle. Ya live an learn eh!! lol xxx

Hi Willrun4cake & Jacqueline

Nice to hear from you - yes I found the thread most interesting. Sorry to her about your chesty cold - hope its on its way out and you are back out there on the run.

Jacqueline - what beginner programme are you on - that sounds a bit heavy for day one - 15 minutes non-stop!! It was probably an elite beginners programme lol xxx. I remember I only managed to run a mere 20 seconds on my first ever run.....rather jog. But with consistency the progress was first class.

A good for you booking a half - thats determination. My first race was a 10K - bloomin hard work but oh so worth it.

I went out on my 6th run back after injury this evening - its going well and I can already feel the fitness just starting to edge back in - Im jogging 75% of my route but I cannot manage without a few walk breaks - not yet. Im just doing 2 runs a week at the moment on orders of my osteopath. Another 2 weeks and I can up it to 3 runs per week providing I have no pain in my back or hips and she wont let me go over 5 miles at the moment.

I have really enjoyed reading this thread - its a shame no-ones posted over the last month or so.

Hope everyone is doing really well - Im a tortoise runner as well - just restarted after 8/9 months off from a back injury - so back to a beginners schedule for me - but im enjoying it - I was so desperate to get back out there.

It would be really good to get an update from you guys to see how everyone is doing.

Evening all and warm welcome mumto3

Well tonight I managed 3.5 miles, but it took 40 minutes it was a hard slog tonight - again had to take a few walk breaks - Im ok with that though - i have to be as running the whole loop right now without stopping just isnt going to happen until my fitness is vastly improved.

Cant wait for my mile splits to improve but hey - at least im out there and beginning to feel that beautiful feeling I had about running when I had to give up some months back.

Mumto3 - you keep it up - you'll be primed nicely for R4L 2011.
