Hi Everyone, it is now 2 years since I had a message telling me someone had re-visited it.
Many people have kept in touch and although I have now given up most of the active side of Coaching I still act as an advisor and often go around giving many lectures and seminars.
At the age of 69 I found it a bit to much travelling around and keeping up with all those young women (poor me!!) I cannot even keep up with two of my grandchildren now aged 6. One is a distance runner and just done 8min 54sec for a mile (takes after her father and grandmother) in fact she was still 5 when she did this. The other is a sprinter, (takes after me and my son)and has done 7.4 sec for 50m. It is quite funny when they train together (or I should say run around together, they only do one training session a week with me)When they were very young, like 3 and 4 the fast one would shoot off and the other would moan because she could not keep up. But, I kept saying if you keep going you will soon catch her as she will slow down and of course she did.
My main activity is now Photograhpy and and more or less given up Video work. There is just no more training/coaching routines left to cover.
So good luck to everyone and especially to SS, I assume it is the SS I communicated with. So pleased to see things are now better for you.
All the best, Ron. |

I noticed action on this thread and so looked in.
As you will know I have not been active for about a year now, BUT I am still very much involved with the Coaching and Training of Runners. I am still specializing in the Womens aspect of running ( although of couse I include the men on these forums ).
My main activity during the year has also been directed to the productions of Plays and Films. Have started to write many scripts and started to Video some. This is now an on going activity.
As mention on another forum I have produced my own WebSite for Runners, but this will not be up and running (sorry)until the new year now. Will make it known when it is.
Good Luck to everyone and keep the PB's going.

Hello, I was surprised to see a message come up in my e'mail saying someone has gone on the thread. ( I like the baby, have another grand daughter myself, just 4 days old )
This time last year I was deeply involved with this thread, as many of you will remember. I am still up to my neck in all things to do with athletics, but I have spent most of the year in video and film making activities, mainly in connection with athletic training/coaching.
Many of you have kept in touch and I coached Caroline on a personal one to one bases for a while in the summer.
I am also developing my own website and will make an anouncement when it is up and running!!!
Well that is all for now, hope some of you are still getting information from the thread. As mentioned above, you can always tap directly into it via your e'mail alert.
All the best, Ron. |

Hi everyone. Just to say I have not given up on the thread, or started another one. Many people have kept in touch with e'mail.
I will be letting you all know about a future service which I think you will find both interesting and helpful.
Hope all the training is going ok and hope John is running again. How about you Imogen, have you done that 10k yet???
Caroline is still going well and no doubt looking forward to London.
Be in touch again soon, Ron. |

Hi Imogen. Yes thats great, 6min 54min miles. I would expect you to be at your maxHR.
What you are feeling, at last, is the results of all that training you did and the adaptation of it. I have been saying for a long time now that you should take avantage of it by doing a race or at least a time trial if only to see what, if anything has developed. The training was designed to get you running at a faster pace, hopefully it would have also allowed you to keep up a faster pace ( not sub 8 min mileing though) for a half marathon. But as we all know it did not work for the event aimed at. It was a combination of you had not adapted in time and the half marathon is not the best distance to bring out the best in you. But that does not mean you cannot improve on current best time, I am sure you can, gien conditions more suitable for you.
I think you still should find a 10k, even 5k to do soon,in the meantime yes carry on with the quality work and put in a few enjoyable longer runs.
I am pleased that at last some signs have come through that you have gained something from all that hard work.
All the best Ron. |
