So I've been given crutches and a boot. Swimming is ok, but no other exercise, so yesterday I went for a run in the pool! Any tips for pool running technique and equipment appreciated... |

Thanks Debra for that advice. Irritatingly, I've been able to hop on the foot since the injury 2.5 weeks ago, but didn't get a diagnosis until this Monday. I ran 10 miles on it because I didn't know what was wrong and now have other pain and swelling. How long did it take you to get back to running 2+ hours? I expect 50 (on towpath) will take me around 11 hours... GKD I'm waiting for an appointment with the fracture clinic - thus far just have an X-ray which shows healing at the fracture site. I'm not sure they will be best placed to offer advice to an ultra runner, as it will be a very busy clinic that mainly deals with 'normal' breaks and fractures and I'll probably get seen by a junior doc! It's useful to get advice from people who do the same activity as me and have worked back to slow off road distance... |

Hi there. so, I was all geared up to do my first ever ultra this weekend (Cardiff)until injury struck at the beginning of my taper (see my blog www.diaryofanultrarunner.wordpress.com for all the details). So it turns out that its a stress fracture on my 4th metatarsal. I'm still desperate to do the 50 mile distance, having completed all the hard training, but don't know how long I will be out of action for and then how to get back to ultra distances. Can anyone offer any advice? I'm planning on undertaking the distance on the Leeds to Liverpool canal on my own with support from my running club. Thanks. |

| Saucony Kinvara have worked for me. Did 6 miles on the treadmill to try them out then straight into a 22 miler on the canal with some really muddy hilly sections thrown in. They coped surprisingly well, but look a lot less clean now... Second pair on the way so I can rotate. Available for ??50 at sportshoes at the moment. |

| There is accommodation at Sport Wales, but it looks fairly basic! |
