I have had ITB since late last year and kept running on it only for my performance to decline rapidly after a half marathon in March. I finally had to pull out of the FLM a few weeks ago when I was unable to complete 2 x 5 mile runs in a week. My reasoning was that I would injure myself permanently and would probably not be able to even walk the 26 miles if it came to it. I'm now on 6 weeks enforced rest and physio. Remember that something like 20% of people have to pull out from injury or illness and you can always do it next year. I know it's a huge disappointment but you have to put your health first.

I managed to complete 8 miles on SUnday, running 6 and a half of them, but after I was in a lot of pain. I just hope to keep going and that the stretches and insoles start working. Training is hard enough work as it is without this problem too.

It's so reassuring to find other suffers although I wish we could all magic it away. I overpronate and have leg length discrepency but after hand made orthotics and weekly massage I couldn't get past 5 miles last weekend. I'm going to try cross training and hope the stretching and strengthening exercises will kick in. I have been having doubts about the FLM but am more positive that there are other sufferers who have got through it. I'm of the same thought - I'll walk it if I have to!

Old Father Tim
I have been having weekly-ish massage to loosen the tendon which is helping a bit but not quickly enough. I'm supposed to be doing 12 miles this weekend and a half marathon the following and at the moment I can't see it happening unless I walk the rest of the way! What kind of cross training have you been doing.
