The 70 virgins you appear to get the use of in the 'next life', as an accomplished suicide bomber, seemed to be a major selling point of the recruitment drive, according to the documentary. A bit like reward points maybe, only more fun.

Maybe I should become a muslim? You don't get a reward of any free virgins if you're in the jesus-club. Not sure I could handle 70 though. Not altogether, anyway.

If:

(a) the event paperwork didn't say that there was a prize for people who didn't win, and

(b) you didn't win,

then I think it is a bit unreasonable for you to be moaning here about not getting a prize for not having won.

If you are concerned only to run in events which guarantee prizes to non-winners, the burden is really on you to seek those events out in advance.

I read somewhere that children shouldn't run long distances as it may damage their bones and stunt their growth. But I don't know if that is true.

The question seems to be a medical one?

There seems to be a noticeable discrepancy between the prices of organised events of the same length.

Some cost a lot, still attract a large field, give no freebies, are not organised to benefit any charity, and seem to rake unnecessarily large sums of money in for some private organisation.

Other races are inexpensive, give freebies such as T shirts, have charitable ends for any funds raised anyway, and are good value for money.

As most races seem to entail conferring on us mainly the privilege of running on the public highway (which we have paid for anyway) I am curious to know what people think is a fair price for an organised race, and what grumbles or other comments they have on this area.

e.g. Is it just a matter of supply and demand, or should there be a "going rate"? Should club members get entry cheaper than others?
