Managed 21 miles today. So we are both feeling more confident. It was tough, hot and at times windy and the wind was in our faces not from behind. But we got round and let the taper begin. Been dreaming about this!!
Ours have arrived today, I'm in Zone 5 and Keith Zone 6. We want to run together so need a careful read to see if I can drop back a zone or we need to sort a meeting point out en route. Got a 21 miler planned for Sunday round the Guild Wheel.
Managed 16 miles at weekend just about. I think we need to start eating more during the week. We are both constantly hungry and I went a bit light headed during the run. We had both been using the High 5 gels to fuel the run but I think I/we need more. A step back week this week with the Hilton Half at Blackpool on Sunday. Then two weeks of upping the mileage and then let taper madness begin.
Myself and my partner are both doing this and we are about a week behind our long run plan. But we have done 19 miles over the last three days so feel fairly confident about getting back on track this weekend and then getting two 18 and 21 miler in before tapering. We have planned a run/walk strategy as this is his first marathon and I want him to have a positive experience. This is my third but the first that I feel the training is going okay for. We are doing one LSR and two/three shorter runs during the week. Hope that's not put the kiss of death on it. I much prefer autumn to spring marathon training.
Enjoyed the race overall. But would like to see a penned start like at the half marathon considering the short run to the Tunnel. In previous years the longer run to the Tunnel has made it easier on the descent as people have been more spaced out. Struggled coming out due to the lack of the usual mile warm up getting into it. The one water station met the criteria for the distance but could maybe have done to be on both sides of the promenade. Good to see by the time we got there the volunteers had used their initiative and moved some water to the river side. All in all another good BTR event. My fifth Tunnel 10k plus two Liverpool halves. Be back for both again next year injury and illness permitting.
