re: treadmill vs rd, you might like to look on peak performance webside pponline, it explains why treadmill running is a bit easier by examining various studies, eg wind resistance, tarmac, biomechanical factors etc etc. Yrs, waffle's friend (who has to take a run group on a treadmill session tonight, and is, frankly, panicing)
I used 1 gel an hour during Edinburgh Marathon and didn't have any problems with stomoach cramps.I carried everything in a small waist bag. If you wear it over the wider part of the hips and pulled tight you don't notice it and it doesn't jiggle about.
I did Edinburgh Marathon last year and have been finding it very hard to get back into running in terms of motivation. I had run consistently for 7 years before the event. For a few months after I found I was getting PBs on hardly any training at all. Now I find it so difficult to get myself up for any training. I wonder if I should concentrate on other sports for a while.
Glad I'm not the only one to find the New Forest Half quite difficult. My non running friends were distinctly unimpressed when I complained that I found the hills tough."I didn't know the New Forest was hilly" they sniffed. It's still a really good event though (also an attractive high quality medal)
