The Inov-8 are proper off roader and will give you more grip and feel especially in the slippy stuff. The Asics are great, and are certainly better on road, but if you are plugging mud or on uneven surfaces go for the Inov-8

Get a Montane Featerlite H20. 100% windproof so great for you bike, 99% waterproof with full taped seams, and more beathable than a Goretex Paclite. Weighs about the same as an apple, so extremly light. Got no pockets due to light weight. Good venting if you do run hot. Also comes with a tiny stuff sack (smaller than a pair of rolled up socks)so if can take the jacket off if you do become to hot

I've recently bought the featherlite H20. This is a 100% windproof, 99% waterproof (i.e. it is fully taped seams and will keep you dry in heavy rain for 3-4hrs, but will struggle if you plan to have a week in the Scottish highlands during winter). The jacket is sooo light (115g), however it is not as beathable as the pertex version but is streets ahead of heavy and hot Goertex paclites. If you do get a bit hot, ventalation is great due to venting at the rear and the zip at the front can be pulled down with the velcro storm flap shut to let the air through (this means your coat is not flapping around) Unlike the last post I think the cut is fine. If I'm ultra critical it may be a little long in the arms when the arms are in the running position
