From your description displaced into my ankle causing alot of internal damage to ligaments and tendons, I would say that intending to complete the half marathon in less than 3 weeks time,  if you are still aiming for the one at the end of May 09, you are potentially putting at risk the no long term effects quoted by your surgeon.

In my experience of recovering from accidents (of which I have several) do not try to push your self to recover faster that your body is prepared to i.e. if something hurts or aches stop!.  On the other hand most doctors I have spoken to are used to dealing with inactive people and they have always been suprised about how I have progressed over their expectations.

I also believe very strongly that a positive frame of mind helps enormously in recovery. See my Recovery from severe head injury and multiple fractures.

Well, despite having the best conditions I have run this in, not too icy, not too soft. I managed to achieve my slowest time ever, which I put down to still having the cold I picked up over christmas and the fact that I have not done any running at all since October....  hmm could be a factor do you think?

A great day for the race though, not cold and little wind.  After the previous 3 weeks 'in the freezer' very enjoyable.

Looks like you might be ok for some mud, the forcast is for it warming up over the weekend.

I would still hope for the deeper mud to be frozen, not iron hard on the surface and not too deep would be good.

I'll see people on Sunday then, if not have a good race all.

I would say this is probably the best weather preceeding the race that I have seen in the last 5 years.

I just hope that it stays cold and reasonably frozen with no rain.

KR, I think that most people walk at some stage, I know that I do.  I am never close enough to the front to see if the lead runners walk any of the hills.

The event website grassroots has some photos and and the finishing times so you may be able to assess if the last runner times (around 3hrs) mean that there was some walk/run going on.

 I'll see you there?

TP, I'm not driving but if you and your mates want to get your bikes to Melksham we can all ride there together, I'll be leaving around 8-9am.
