Why would he not feel threatened? You can make light of it but
funny accent = different culture
different culture = they will react to stimulus different from you
different reaction = you don't know what's going to happen
not knowing = threat

The problem is not a "few" folks speaking polish or punjabi. You now have areas of England where the dominant language is not English.
So you will feel like an outsider, but you are in London.
Folks who come over to work want to be with folks that share their language an culture. Just like English ex-pats in spain etc.
The problem is not immigration per se, it's the scale of it.
