I will be 70 when I do VLM this year having only taken up running when I was 62. As I expect the marathon to take me about 6 and a half hours (I have done 2 previous marathons in that time), how long should my longest runs be? It seems unrealistic to only be out for 3 hours training when I need to be on my feet for 6 and a half.
Hi Emily - sorry I have only just seen your message as well! As supergirlpam says, there are lots of crumblies doing marathons these days but her achievements are fantastic! I only started running when I was 62 so thought I was doing quite well doing my first marathon at 66 - Brighton is my second one and my time is very slow but I shall just keep going as long as possible now that I've been bitten by the running bug! Thanks again for your interest!
Hi Peter - sorry have only just seen your message. I managed to get in a B&B in Henfield which was brilliant and worked very well. I was coming from Cardiff (about 4 hours drive) and as I knew I would take over 6 hours, I didn't want to drive back until Monday morning. Thanks again for your interest and hope that you had a good marathon - weren't the crowds fantastic?!
Yes, I have tried the internet but mostly what comes up is the more expensive hotels and being a pensioner, economy is the key! I have thought of just arriving early SAturday morning and walking around the area to look for a B&B, or maybe a cancellation. Anyway, thanks for your advice and I'll keep looking.
Can anyone local to Brighton recommend a CHEAP B&B near Preston Park? I'm travelling from Cardiff Saturday am and staying til Monday am. HELP, PLEASE!!!!
