Skiprat - sorry for the late reply. The track marathon is the Crewe DeJa Vu on 3rd Nov. It's organised by Sandback Striders, the race is full (only 50 places) but it's worth contacting them anyway.
Thanks for all the very supportive messages by the from everyone. Can't remember who made a comment about me wearing two pairs of socks to run in, but it's something i've done for years. (Twin Skin socks then a thicker pair over the top).
Well better late than never, though I would add my bit about the race. In a word.......gutted. It all went wrong from about 15 miles. Got to half way in 1h 43m so on for sub 3.30, which was my target and was following the runnersworld pacer no problem.
Then feet just really started hurting, just shooting pains. Stopped to readjust sock and trainers, took one pair of socks off and threw them on the road side. RW pacer then too far away and my pace just dropped off.
The one really good point about the race was running the last 100 metres with my daughters (well carried my 2 year old). I'll never forget that. I let my 5 year old collect my medal and she took it to school to show her friends.
I finished in 3h 48 by the way. Never mind. Onto my next marathon on 3rd Nov. A track marathon so 105.5 laps of a running track.
Put me in the 'managed 22miles at the weekend' group. Really pleased as felt great, felt like I could have run another 4.2 to make the marathon. Hilly route round Esholt, Hawkworth, Guiesley, Rawdon and Apperley Bridge, finishing with approx. 3 mile climb home.
Taper time.....woohoo. Distances to run midweek are about hour, rather than over an hour and a half.
I saw earlier comments about taper. My LSRs for the next two weeks, following the RW plan are 18m this weekend and 13 next weekend.
